Chicago Marshall star Ryan Hare commits to Oregon State over Bradley

Chicago Marshall star Ryan Hare commits to Oregon State over Bradley

Ryan Hare is one of the top rated players in Illinois for the class of 2008. He is a 6'4" wing guard from Chicago Marshall high school. Wednesday he committed to Oregon State University. Oregon State had also landed class of 2007 Marshall player Mike Stovall.

Rivals reports that Hare chose Oregon State over offers from Bradley, Ball State, Illinois-Chicago, Northern Illinois, UTEP, and Baylor.
Again, Bradley loses out on a Chicago Public League player to a major school.

This is a premium article from Rivals--

Here is a clip--
The book on Hare is that he's a wing that may remind some of current Oregon senior Bryce Taylor. Last season as a junior, he was Marshall's second leading scorer behind Stovall at over 17 points per game, and as a sophomore he ranked second in scoring behind current Arkansas star Patrick Beverley. He's projected to be one of the top guards in the city as a senior and he's ready for the challenges awaiting him in the Pac-10.

MidstateHoops has a nice article about Ryan Hare committing--

I am surprised, but now that we see so many kids commit before they ever visit a college, maybe we will continue to see more of this kind of commit/decommit stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if Bradley gets back involved with Hare, but I suspect he is hoping for a "bigger offer".

One recruiting site reports that Hare is now considering Ball State, Bradley, Northern Illinois and UTEP.
Most reports say he liked Oregon State, but did not like the long distance travel.

I like the idea of recruiting Hare. Big, strong, athletic guard. I don't know how he shoots the three, but I think he would be a great get for BU.

click on Daniel Poneman's link that da coach has on Ryan Hare.. Daniel states that Ryan has a good outside shot... Sounds like this guy could fit in our system very well....

Daniel Poneman has a new article mentioning Ryan Hare. He says Bradley and DePaul are his leaders. See 2nd paragraph--

Sure would be nice to get some of that Chicago talent. I know we have tried, and that Jim has always wanted Chicago to be a primary recruiting spot for us. Unfortunately it hasn't worked out very well outside of Tony Bennett. I hope this kid makes the right choice.

Bradley would be a good fit for him as it would get him out of chicago and yet be close enough for him to go home once in awhile ; chicago players usually do very well here ; Maniscalco and Bennett recently to go along with JJ Anderson and Hersey Hawkins.

While I love Maniscalco (Re: all of my posts in the last 9 months), I wouldn't consider him 'a Chicago player.' As much as people like myself call anything north of I-80 Chicago, I think people are talking about the infamous Chicago public league that has some of the best basketball players in the country (outside of the MIC in Indiana - see Greg Oden, Mike Conley, Eric Gordon, Armon Basset, Josh McRoberts et.al.), unfortunately it seems few succeed because of early disadvantages such as the education provided by the CPL.

I disagree a bit. When BU was in it's heyday Chicago-recruiting wise, they had a solid mix of public league and non-public league players. We had a solid public league player 2 years ago in Tony Bennett, now we've got a great catholic league player in Sammy. With 3+ million in Chicago and the surrounding areas, there's plenty of talent regardless of what part of the city the kid is from.

One thing about JL is if a kid is committed to the school he will work on the other things. In the long run I believe due to JL's comitment to academics we will get a few stars that otherwise might have gone somewhere else. BTW JL if I remeber correctly had better then avg. grades while at BU. So he walks the talk!
