Soccer- BU vs. Maryland

I love this line from one of the guys on the Maryland message board...

"2-0 in soccer is = 56-0 at the half in football... this baby is over, book this one to the terps. how to we match up with osu or ucsb?"

then the very next post says:
"well it's 2-1 now.
dam*n, thats like 56-49 now, what happened?"

Then someone tell the guy...
'Scott, you're an idio*t. they just tied the game dumbas*s."

Finally after the game, someone actually blames the guy who climed 2-0 was a guaranteed win!
"we lost. please ban scotlacrock. this ******************** cost us the game."

That is hilarious!

It shows the game between Ohio State and UCSB is TBA, so not sure what's going on there. Maybe it got suspended because of weather?

On another note, Creighton got beat at home tonight in the NCAA Soccer tourney 1-0 by UIC. Too bad for them as Bradley and CU could have met in the final four.

I am really still in shock over the soccer teams W tonight.......WOW...the miracle season just keeps on going! WAY TO GO!

I suspect a lot of our regular postgame posters are at the Welcome Rally for the soccer team at the Fieldhouse.
It was announced on the 10:00 news that they are expecting the team to arrive back at the Fieldhouse around midnight.

Never been much on soccer, but this has to be one of best sports stories of the year. Congrats Coach Derose and all you wonderful young men. Keep it going.

ESPN should do a story on these guys! Don't they have a show about sports stories and teams that have overcome emotional earthquakes like Bradley has had and then burst with wonderful success?

Anyway... This win is absolutely INCREDIBLE!

hey everyone, the welcome back at the fieldhouse was great, and many players voiced their thanks to the fans. Some of the players were pretty emotional as well, it was really a great thing to see them come back and welcome em home.

Was at the game last night....whew! I still can't believe they pulled it out.

To be perfectly honest, I thought BU didn't play well at all. The first half was all Maryland, they spent most of the half knocking it around in the Bradley half of the field and went up 2-0 pretty convincingly. Our defenders kept getting turned around and we couldn't string more than 2 passes together all night. As for the second half, I would say that Maryland went into a shell (pun intended) more than BU became more aggressive. BU still had problems stringing more than a couple of passes together and making the simple pass or putting the ball in the air vs. the ground. The two goals at the end of regulation were scrambles in the box, BU was able to get some good touch on them. After the first one, everybody in the stands got jacked up and the inevitable "can it happen again?" question started getting thrown around. Nobody in the BU section shut up after the first goal, but the Terp fans were a bit worried. You could tell because they certainly weren't as vocal as they were all night. After the equalizer, you could feel how stunned the Maryland fans were. When BU had the shot that blasted the crossbar in the first OT, everybody thought that was it. Maryland had a good scramble but was turned away too. Then at 1:15 left in the second OT, pandemonium baby!!! According to some other posts I've read of people that were listening to the game, the announcers thought it may have been a Maradona-esque "Hand of God" header that got BU the win. I was up near midfield near the students and some faculty and all we saw was the ball tickle the back of the net and then all hell broke loose, so I can't say at all whether it was a hand or not. Anyways, given that the referee did a pretty bad game all night (I reffed for about 12 years, I know a bad game when I see one) you could say it was about time a bad call went BU's way.

A really, really awesome game to see, if you weren't there, I hate to say it, but you really missed out!!!

Go Braves!!!!!!!!

I was there at the rally in the FIELDHOUSE with a couple of my kids, and the rally went late into the night.
Unfortunately, with the kids having some Sunday morning activities, and I had to work this morning, we had to leave a little after midnight, with the team nowhere is sight.
I regret that we had to miss them, but beyond the band there were very, very few people at this impromptu rally.
I'd estimate 40 band members, Dr. Vroman, a dozen cheerleaders, 30 other students, and maybe only about 25 older fans were there.
The combination of the late time, the little notice given, and the weather probably doomed the event to a low turnout, but it was still probably rocking when the team got there.

In that photo-link, be sure to catch picture # 10 out of 12...it is an awesome picture
of BU goalie Mike Haynes taking a shot from one of the Terp players.

By the way....the PJ Star has definitely scooped just about everyone with a very fine set of pictures from last night on their site:

Kudos to the girls of the Bradley softball team and everyone else who made the long trip out to Maryland. Who knows? Maybe their support helped keep the Braves in the game when they fell behind early 2-0. I don't know how often it happens, but it is rare for a team to come back from a 2-0 deficit, especially on the road, in bad weather, and against a very good team.

By the way, the bus would just be getting back into Peoria this morning. Let's hope they had a safe trip back.:D
