Versace withdraws candidacy

I actually had a chance to speak with and say hi to Dick Versace at the
game Tueday night, and as always, he was friendly and congenial.
I wish him the best no matter what decision he makes, but had he stayed in this thing
I think we all know how rugged campaigning at this level can get.

I think he was aware that he wasn't going win and didn't want to waste anyone's money.

Agreed. I believe a Democrat hasn't held that seat since 1912, so he was fighting the weight of nearly a century. He must have talked to his Cub fan buddies and known that the weight of a century of losing is an awful burden to bear.

Worse than history, this district is one of the worse examples of gerrymandering. I believe this last time the democrats drew together this odd group of republican-leaning voters in order to give the surrounding districts a better chance of electing democrats. (Give up one to gain 5, or something like that.)
