Dyricus Simms-Edwards

Similar to Danny Granger ran from BU only to turn into the #17 overall pick in the NBA draft? Perhaps leaving a school is meant to maximize potential, who are you to judge?

And obviously someone hasn't seen Matt Roth play, stepping a foot back from the 3point line only makes him more accurate. I will not blame Matt's poor shooting on the Defense, he is getting PLENTY of open looks but had an off shooting night at U-High shooting 1-9 from college range, and had another off shooting night at Canton where he only made 4. I'm pretty sure he's passed Jeremy Crouch's 3point numbers at this point in his career all while shooting 49% for his career from 3point land... weather that be high school, college, or NBA 3point land he can hit them all.

Oh, and when did a 39% from 3point land turn into some atrocious number?

Stepping back a foot does not make anyone more accurate. That is why they are moving it back beause it is too easy. The effect of moving it back will not be in the 1st two quarters it will be towards the end of the game when your legs are not as strong. Unless MR is the next coming of Larry Bird that just is not going to apply to him. Remeber LB left IU so that would not be bad thing:cool:

Hey, Mosh--- I am not anti-MR, and in fact one of his BIG fans!!
I wanted desperately to see Matt come to BU and am surprised (as many are) at his decision to go to IU with all that's going on there and the spectre of sanctions and bans.

I can't agree more, would have loved him in the Bradley uniform next year. But you can't blame a kid who wants to play at te highest level possible to prove to himself that he can do it and to all those who have doubted him. He gets a chance to play with some of the nations best and against some of the nations best. It is a great opportunity, plus it is a GREAT school where he will get a GREAT education. I'm not saying he wouldn't get that at BU. I just can't criticize a kid, he has his reasons, his family and him made a decision. And IU is extremely excited to have him.

Matt Roth is 26-66 (39%) from 3-point range so far this season.

He has scored a total of 143 points in his team's 6 games (6-0) for an average of almost 24ppg.

Now-- remember, the 3-point line WILL be moving further back in 2008, and I am not so sure that a 6-3 kid who hits only 39% against high school defenses, is going to be able to step back another foot or so and still be effective against Big Ten-caliber defenses.

I know some will defend Matt by saying that the defenses "key" on him. But you have to realize, that every good player in America and the best player on every high school team also has the defenses "keying" on him, so how is this any different?
The article today about Edwards points out that either Matt Roth is benefitting from having another talented scorer to draw away defenses, or possibly Simms-Edwards is scoring so much mainly because the defenses are paying so much attention to Roth.

Why are you making this about Matt Roth? Nothing to add about Dyricus or just hating on Matt?

It's not atrocious, but it isn't that great.
Every high school in America has a kid or two who shoot 40%

There's reasons that even though kids can shoot close to 50% in high school and even grade school, still at the D-I level NOBODY shots over 50%.
It has to do with defenses, the pace they play at, and the conditioning required to play at the D-I level that BUILDS strength, muscle mass, and stamina, but it doesn't benefit shooting accuracy and even may inhibit it.
Need I point anywhere further than to ISU transfer, Sead Odzic, the sharpshooter who averaged 46% as a junior and 50% as a senior from 3-pt range in high school, but who went to USC and couldn't even hit 30%

And Granger, Like Larry Bird are the extreme exceptions.
D-I transfers and HS transfers aren't really in the same context, but....
The vast, vast majority of D-I transfers are either mostly average or fizzle out and are never heard from again.
The list is endless but include Xanthus Houston, Michael Rembert, and even Saihou Jassey, who is dropping in playing time like a piece of lead, and barely plays at all now.

No complaints from Brave Land when Somerville came home! Back to Roth, you are right, many HS players shoot 35 - 40% and even 50%. If you shoot 3 and make 2, your percentage will be skewed high. To shoot in the upper 40's with the number of attempts Matt has is impressive. Isn't that why Bradley went so hard after Crouch out of HS because of his 3-point shooting?

ok, the name of the thread is Dyricus Simms-Edwards and I started it to see what you guys thought about him playing at BU. Sorry if I started conflict or took this thread off topic but I would really like waht you guys have to say about him. But please don't just shoot him down for transferring, that is a personal decision and it really seems to be working out for him who are we to judge?

You are right Moshington, it was a decision he and his family made. I sure do like his game. I find myself wondering how much he can improve by the end of his Senior year! He sure is becoming a favorite in Washington!!!

I actually have not seen him play, but I have heard good things about him. I am looking forward to getting to see him and MR play together sometime soon.

Jim Les is an excellent judge of talent and character. He's not the type of guy who will recruit someone solely on his athletic abilities if he feels that they won't be a good fit with the Bradley program. I'm sure that Les knows about this kid and has one of his many eyes on him.

I duno if anyone was listening to ESPN Radio a little bit ago but they were discussing the high school games tonight and when they got to the Washington game they were discussing Simms-Edwards and how he had really stepped up his game. According to the guy they were talking to, he's the high school hoops writer for the PJ Star, I can't remember his name, Simms-Edwards is now getting looks from WSU and Kansas.

Why are you making this about Matt Roth? Nothing to add about Dyricus or just hating on Matt?

First...read my post just three posts before you asked these things....
I am a very big Matt Roth fan and wanted him at BU more than just about anyone...

Second...I didn't make this about Matt Roth....as the subject of Roth was brought up numerous times even before I posted once in this thread.
But even the article in today's PJ Star about Simms-Edwards talks almost as much about Roth as about Edwards, so why the surprise we talk a bit about Roth?

Third....it is hardly "off-topic" to mention Roth in a thread about Simms/Washington/and BU recruiting, so I think it is fair game. I for one have to think if Sampson gets fired or IU gets post-season bans, then just maybe it might affect both Simms-Edwards' recruiting and maybe Matt Roth's also.

"Play with the nations best"? Northwestern, Iowa, Penn State, Minnesota, Michigan"? As John Stossel would say," give me a "break;"
Except for Mich St. and Eric Gordons Indiana, they hardly are "The Nations best"
If you have not noticed, their collective RPI is behind The Mo Valley.
3 Up 8 Down in Acc Big 10 Challenge!
For Gods sake, The Illini lost to Maryland who VCU beat by 9 at Maryland and Ohio U. also rang up a "w"against The Terps. The Illini are probably #3-#5, among "the nations best."! ie;Big 10?
Not a great pre conference season resume.

Last night Matt Roth had another "off night" and was 4-17.
Washington had no trouble with Canton however.

Ya, the big10 is REAL weak as compared to the MVC with Drake, Evansville, Indiana State...
