Scottie Pippen Coach the Bulls?

Scottie is campaigning for consideration......

Here is a list of guys who coached at the NBA level with either little or NO prior coaching experience...

Larry Bird never coached before he led the Indiana Pacers to the NBA Finals

Pat Riley was briefly a Lakers assistant but primarily a broadcaster before becoming one of the most decorated coaches in NBA history.

Isiah Thomas had never had coached, and while it's not going well for him now in New York, he had three productive seasons in his first coaching job with the Indiana Pacers

Don Nelson was an assistant coach in Milwaukee for two months before beginning what should be a Hall of Fame career.

Doug Collins was briefly an Arizona State recruiting assistant before coming to the Bulls.

Doc Rivers never coached before being named NBA Coach of the Year in his rookie season in Orlando.

Avery Johnson was on Nelson's staff less than one season before taking over as head coach and taking the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals and being named Coach of the Year.

Even Scott Skile took over as head coach at Phoenix in 1999 with virtually no experience.

Bill Cartwright also coached the Bulls and was 51-100 (those were BAD teams though). The Bulls need to move past the dynasty era because it's clearly over. Rudy T is out there and so is Jeff Van Gundy. Those two would both be better than Pippen. He could probably be a good assistant coach, but I highly doubt he would be able to be an effective head coach at this time. I would even take Larry Brown over Pippen.

I really don't think that the coach is the problem, although they've been playing better without Skiles. They really need a star on that team. Maybe Gordon is finally ready to do that (39 today in a loss), and Deng probably will be able to do it in a few years. Wallace was just such a mistake... almost as bad as trading Brand.

and just about everyone on that list was a point guard

What would be his last-second play when you are down one or 2. "Everybody, sit on the bench!"

Nice. I was going to write that, but I think he's moved past that stage now.

Wow Pippen must really need that money. First he tries to come back as a player and now a coach?

He did sue some "business partner" a few years back that helped him invest money (I think it was an old friend) that lost/stole something like over $9 mil. I think that's why he was doing broadcasting too.

There was a decent amount of talk of him coming back as an assistant, and he may be good as an assistant-especially for a player like Deng.
