Well, where do we go from here?

Actually Les is pretty adamant about being a strong defensive team and having active hands -- at least that's what he says in the paper and on TV. Wasn't it just last year when he used something like 80 percent of the preseason practices to work on defense?

There was a different coaching staff last year.

You simply cannot call yourself a 'strong defensive team' or proclaim that we are 'a team that is built around our defense' if you do not teach your kids how to rebound and don't make rebounding a priority...
Playing solid defense for 30 seconds and forcing a team to take a bad shot is completely meaningless if no one on the floor is going to block out and make sure that the missed shot is turned into a defensive rebound.

Jim seems to want an opportunistic steal-oriented D (for transition points) That has been the main emphasis.

He has certainly never stated, make them take a bad shot and rebound it.

Well, then they will never be a solid defensive team...because finishing off a defensive stance by sealing off the opposition and getting the defensive board is the way that you earn the label as a good defensive team.

This whole concept of being a good defensive team because we jump the passing lanes and try to get deflections and steals is nonsense...That just means that you are a gambling defensive team that throws caution to the wind and hopes you can generate steals by jumping at everything that moves...I guess that defensive philosophy would explain why Andrew Warren gets beat for a layup on a backdoor cut at least once every single game...

You can only do that if you have faster, smarter and more athletic players especially at the point. Besides DR and TW no one else fits that mold on this team. JC and AW are not quick enough to play that type of disruptive D.

Kinda like how a healthy athletic Bears opportunistically D looked good 2 years ago? Now, not so much.
