Bradley opens the 2013-14 season with a home game Friday, Nov. 8 at 7:00 PM at the Carver Arena against Jacksonville State.

There is no broadcast TV for this game, but it will be the first game with video streaming available. It will also be on 1470 WMBD.

The Jacksonville State Gamecocks are a member of the Ohio Valley Conference, and they are located in Jacksonville, Alabama. Last year they had possibly their best season ever since moving to Division I, and their best season record-wise (17-11, 8-8 in the OVC) since 1999-2000, when Mark Turgeon coached them to a similar record of 17-11 as a member of the defunct Trans-America Conference before he was hired by Wichita State.
Their RPI last year of 151 was the best they have ever achieved. They are coached by James Green.

JSU played their first exhibition game 10/31/13, a 62-52 win over Division II University of West Georgia. They tied for last place in the Gulf South Conference last year.

They play one more exhibition Monday night (11/4/13) against NAIA Martin Methodist College.

They lost their top scorer and top 2 rebounders from last year's team, but they return 3 of the top 5 scorers.

Jacksonville State starts 3 guards, including 6'3" junior guard Darion Rackley, a St. Louis kid that Bradley had some recruiting interest in at Christian Brothers HS. He lead them in scoring in their first exhibition game with 15 points. He is their leading returning scorer. He averaged 13.7 ppg last year.
The other 4 starters in that exhibition game were 6'8" junior forward Jamal Hunter, a juco transfer who had 10 points in the exhibition game, 6'6" senior forward Nick Cook, who had 9 points, 6'1" senior guard Brian Williams, who had 6 points, and 6'3" senior guard Rico Sanders, who had 4 points.
Their other key player is 6'7" juco transfer D.J. Felder, who scored 9 points in 29 minutes off the bench.

New on here and figured I'd finally make a post. I'm having a hard time knowing what to expect in this season-opener. Don't know much about J-State except what was just posted above. Any reason we should expect something other than a comfortable win? I'm just anxious to see how this team looks in a non-exhibition contest!

Welcome- I think Bradley will win, but judging by the close games against UIU and WVWC, I am not sure it will be a "comfortable win". We need our rebounders to do better, and for others to help out with the scoring.

I expect Bradley to be about a 9-10 point favorite.

Untill we get better on D.....Tyshon starts producing......Better at freethrows.....Nothing is gonna be easy! With that said I think we put on a real nice show Friday night and win this going away.

Is this the same Jacksonville that played for the NCAA championship several years ago against UCLA?

No, that was Jacksonville University (the Dolphins) from Jacksonville, Florida. They are now in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

The team we are playing is Jacksonville State University (the Gamecocks) of Jacksonville, Alabama. They are members of the Ohio Valley Conference.

Just to add more confusion, there is also a Jackson State University (the Tigers), located in Jackson, Mississippi. They are members of the SWAC.

I hope it is a win and get to see several of the players on the floor. This will be the first of 4 games my wife and I will see in Peoria.

Please warm up the weather a little. It will be quite a shock from our temperatures in souther CA.

This game will be a true measuring stick of where the Braves are against a D1 team with some competition in the paint! D2 teams pass and shoot real well often not having superior athletes......should be fun!

These next two opponents have historically been bad teams that have been unable to win on the road ....
and are way below MVC-caliber as far as opponents go....
we should clobber them, so I am not sure we can draw much from the outcome - as they aren't even teams who'd get a postcard if the MVC was desperate to expand in the future.

Clobber. Really?
Not seeing it...would be pleased if we win by double-digits, but expect about a 6-7 point win.
I think our lack of depth...or should I say inexperience in our depth will be problematic at the early going of this year.
After about 5 or 6 games, we should start gelling more.

As I noted in the top post, Jacksonville State had their best season last year in their entire D1 history, yet they still finished only 8-8 in the weak Ohio Valley Conference, and ended with a 151 RPI. I do not think they will be as good this year as they were last year, but as far as cupcakes go, the next 6 teams on our home schedule will probably be a lot worse than the Gamecocks (Alabama State, Central Michigan, Chicago State, Texas Pan-Am, IUPUI, and IPFW).

I am actually going to Peoria this weekend from Chicago and attending this game with some friends.

Tickets are really $20 for single game tickets at the Renaissance?

aren't they only like $8 for cheap tickets at Civic Center? Seems silly tickets are more than twice as much for a smaller venue (and from what people on this board have said, uncomfortable seats)

Enough is enough! Comparing apples to oranges! You can not get as far away from the floor youd have to be out on Main to rival the view from the 8 dollar tickets to Carver! And FYI you a drinker cuz drink prices are gonna kill ya ;)

I had an 8 dollar ticket last season and could view the game as well as when I had season tickets. And the game was in a real Division 1 arena.

If you have 3 friends, you'll be able to buy 4 tickets for $50 ($12.50 each), and you'll get a hot dog and soda to go with it.

The Game Notes from past years always used to mention whether there would be broadcast TV available. Now it is not even mentioned. And we are into the regular season Friday, and Bradley has never yet released a single word about whether there will be any local TV broadcasts, so I guess we can assume there will not be. The website also used to list Braves Club promotions, rallys, and events, but now I don't see any mention of any of these. Is the Braves Club still functioning? They ask for my money each year, but there seems to be less done in the name of promoting fan interest than ever.

Most fans I know are not interested in watching games on a computer screen, and already fan following and attendance has plummeted these last couple years to all-time lows, but there seems to be very little being done to attract new fans, or to generate interest among the current fans. IMO, we need to get games back on local TV, or soon the fans will be gone forever. I thought Bradley hired a new high-powered marketing and promotion firm? Was it their idea to make the Bradley program disappear?
