North Dakota choosing a new nickname

University of North Dakota is in the process of selecting a new nickname for their teams...

They have dumped their old nickname..."The Fighting Sioux (amid politically correct turmoil..)

and have already narrowed the new choice to one of FIVE finalist nicknames...
Fighting Hawks, Nodaks, North Stars, Roughriders and Sundogs.

but now fans can VOTE - and not just any fans, only alumni and donors...

BUT the call went out that if anyone else wanted to vote all the had to do was give a donation or become season ticket holders- kind of a poorly disguised fund-raising effort...hoping to draw in new donors..

BUT - alas - it was a pretty big flop.... only FIVE new people donated before the deadline...

...voting is still going on....

As an Alumni, I'll be voting for the "Fighting Hawks". Though, Roughriders is close a second.

The University of North Dakota '_' !

The University of North Dakota '_' !

To be perfectly politically, socially, economically, globally, religiously, ethnically, sexually, physically, and mentally correct, I suggest the following nickname for the University of North Dakota:

THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA "__"

The 'Nothings' of North Dakota will set the standard world wide for being
the most correct nickname of any organized sports team!

Time to jump on the '_' bandwagon!!

'We've got NOTHING!'

Looks like "Fighting Hawks" beat out the other semifinalist "Roughriders" 57% to 43%, with over 27,000 votes cast.

And the general consensus seems to be summed up in this article-
North Dakota took years to come up with a new team name and the best they could do was 'Fighting Hawks'

Why isn't anyone concerned about offending Satanists with the "Blue Devils" or "Blue Demons", Catholics with the names Deacons or Cardinals, Quakers, and the Irish with the silly Fighting Irish logo?
I guess only certain minorities and ethnic groups deserve concern about their being "offended".

But also Miners, Lumberjacks, Musketeers, Colonels, Governors, Knights, Friars, Dutchmen, Cajuns, Scots, Norsemen, and Gaels all have feelings, too - are we not worried about them being offended?
