2014 point guard Erick Locke

New article on Eric Locke..he's not lacking confidence!
http://depaul.scout.com/2/1129402.html

"Erick Locke will be one of the more sought after guards in Illinois in the Class
of 2014. He already holds scholarship offers from Chicago State and
Valparaiso. Locke is also getting interest from Bradley, DePaul, Detroit,
Illinois, Illinois State, Northern Illinois, UIC, and Xavier.

“I’m the definition of a combo guard,” said Locke. “I can go out and get 20 or
30 if I need to, but I can run the team if I have to as well. I can do both at
the same time as well. I will do whatever I need to do for my team to win. If
that means getting 10 rebounds and not scoring, or just running the team, or
getting 20 points and 5 assists.”

uh oh -- breaking news - almost a "scandal" involving this Bradley recruit...

Eric Locke's dad who is head boys basketball coach at Brooks was canned after improprieties discovered...
It appears Coach Locke transferred his own son into Brooks HS illegally since he does not live in the district.

tough break for the kid as he is probably only a pawn in this situation...

Pawn? A coach wants his son to play for him is a bad thing? They should be encouraging this type of behavior. What happened to family first?

I think most would agree SFP except the school rules, Chicago Public Schools rules and IHSA rules that are specifically to prevent high school coaches or anyone else from building their team via illegal transfers - is what makes the situation sticky..
in addition to going to a Chicago school and not living in Chicago, he also lives 30 miles away - outside the radius of any kid who might have been allowed and it also appears they tried to falsify the kid's true address...just

OK, not fighting the system head on and trying to illegally get around the system was their mistake. I understand Chicago's rule but there should be a family exception in the books. Let's face it, Chicago's public institutions have a reputation that proceeds itself. Whatever happened to the saying that we should follow the spirit of the law? Common sense should rule.......

former Bradley target Erick Locke ended up doing a year at prep school and is now at South Suburban College - a juco in South Holland, IL
He's a freshman at South Suburban but starts and averages 8.4 ppg and 4 asst and hits 47% form the arc
..and the team is 12-0 thus far..
He has a teammate there, a shooting guard named Jovan Mooring who is averaging over 23 ppg and a good long range shooter.
I know we haven't dipped into the juco market - but if any scholarships open in the spring - it's not likely there's be a lot of talented high school seniors still left looking for offers - we may need to consider the juco market

a couple more things on South Suburban College....

-they are ranked #1 in NJCAA (DII) junior college basketball
-their stud Jovan Mooring (mentioned in post above) just put up 43 (6-12 from 3pt) points in their last game
-they play tonight vs. Black Hawk-East College (in Kewanee) where past Manual HS assistant coach David Williams is now currently Assistant Basketball Coach
