And the CONCACAF Gold Cup Semifinals soccer match between the US and Cuba this past week at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore went well with the USA winning 6-0, thanks to Clint Dempsey's hat trick, but attendance was a disappointing 37,994, compared to a similar semifinal match 2 years ago in the same venue that drew over 70,000 fans.

And even the claims of "record ticket sales" for recent Women's World Cup matches in Canada were shown to be a bit exaggerated. When calulated on a "per match" basis, the average attendance per match was lower than any year since 2003!

And the increased interest in women's soccer after past Women's World Cups has been short-lived. Previous women's pro soccer leagues, the WUSA and the WPS disbanded within 3 years of past Women's World Cups due to lack of interest.
