One of the top players in NAIA is Derrick Parker, a sophomore at Louisiana State University at Shreveport-

Derrick Parker was Freshman of the Year last year in the GCAC Conference and leading LSUS to a conference title and a berth in the NAIA national tournament.
This year he is averaging 19 points and 12 rebounds per game despite drawing double and triple teaming every game, and he has lead LSUS again to a conference title and a berth in the NAIA tournament.

Most people who have seen him play believe he would have been successful at NCAA D1, but he chose the small NAIA school to stay close to home. He had only 2 Division I offers, from Centenary (which is dropping out of D1), and Bradley.

Note the 3rd paragraph on page 2 of the article-
McDowell had to battle an offer from Centenary and a late foray from Bradley University out of Illinois for the signature of the 6-foot-6 Parker.
