I remember 10 or 15 years ago when there was not this preponderance of offensive fouls called by virtue of the "flop"

EU was really good toninght but I feel like the team must have benifited from a Chris Lowery "how to flop, and sell it" clinical.

I hate the Flop. Also, what kind of a burden does the flop put on the Refs? On TV we have the benefit of Slow Mo and multiple angles, in the heat of the action the ref has to call what his eyes perceive.

The refs are suppose to be professionals and for the most part be able to tell the difference between a flop and a no call. They are getting paid to make good calls during the heat of the moment. If they only let the plays go on and let the players play with a little contact going on then they would never make that flop call.
 
This game was tough to watch based on how it was called. Not becuase I think the refs particularly favored either team... Refs should be basically not noticeable.

Regarding the flops, I think two things can help us...

1. A no-charge zone like the NBA

2. Refs can assess a warning and then a technical if they spot an obvious flop
 
Not to mention the shoving of maniscalco all night and the HORRIBLE calls against Theron- hopefully Jim takes Beuscher's advice and takes the fine for blowing up the officials tonight. The Tim Kurkjian look-a-like should go play in traffic
 
It was really bothering me. UE did it at Carver too... Refs didn't bite in the first half, but then went nuts on it in the second as I recall.

UE is now on my "list" of programs I don't respect now because of their making the flop such a key part of their D. I'm sure it's tougher for the refs, but the really obvious flops were just so blatant. Refs called about 1/3 or 1/2 of them charges. Was really annoying. It's one thing to be tough and "take a charge." Quite another to flop.
 
What I am talking about is savy coaching (I'm sure we do it too) where a guy closes down an offensive players lane to the basket, gets up under him and flops, sometimes with feet set, sometimes with not, but it is so fast that the ref has to decide.

I just hate games with guys flopping to get an advantage. Good refs see it, and will do the couple no calls in a row and that kind of nips it. But sometimes it seems to be a part of the game.
 
The only really obvious time I saw it, 2bradleyfans, was when SM did it to UE at Carver twice. I think he only did it then because they were flopping all over the place on us. -- So, no, I don't think our coaches encourage that "play."
 
There is good news out of all of this though, assume we play the Flops in STL- our guys will remember the flops and hopefully take it out in the one that counts....that is if the Tim Kurkjian ref isn't there
 
From row 18, yes. It was against either UMES or FGCU last season. Can't remember which game... I THINK it was FGCU. Kinduva small crowd.. 6-8K.

When I saw BuB55's link of a pic... I knew right away he was talking about Sanzere. Nice job BuB55 for the "look-alike". ;)

So I googled Mike Sanzere to get a pick and the link I provided was like the first one.

And yea... I surfed around that place too. Very cool link.

And I found it by accident - kinda. LOL! :lol:
 
Yeah, I wonder if the statsheet.com stuff is accurate.. Will have to compare with the official game records a bit. If they're even close to accurate they give you a ton of info right there on like everything. More than just the refs.
 
I saw ONE OBVIOUS charge tonite when Peter Vanturgronousorgerontaagen (sp) turned and took a full couple steps and leveled TW.....stone cold obvious and it was called.

The charges that I hate are when there is body contact by both players allready THEN the offensive player makes a move to the basket and the D guy falls down like the Collins play.

Now if the O guy hooks the D guy or uses a hard elbow to the chin or chest to clear him out...foul....but just two bodies fighting for position is NOT a charge when the D guy falls.
