BU Commit- 2019- Stephan Gabriel

Stephan Gabriel has an extremely athletic and well developed body already, and is very skilled as a ball handler and passer, and though he is right-handed, as can be seen in the videos, he uses his left hand pretty well, too. He has a tremendous upside. He has grown several inches this year (note that Verbalcommits lists him at 6'5") and is now a legitimate 6'7".

He is originally from Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey.
It is great to have him committed early, as I believe he would have gotten higher level offers by the end of this season.

A couple recent articles-

And a few more with mentions of Gabriel-

This is a great start to Bradley's 2019 recruiting class. There are 3 more available scholarships. Expect at least one point guard and a shooting guard to be added, hopefully soon.

Gabriel has played a lot of the off-guard position at Hillcrest Prep, but he calls himself a wing/small forward-

And I notice there are over 340 people online at Bradleyfans.com right now coming to read the good news about the commitment of Stephan Gabriel!

There is still a tremendous amount of interest from fans! Great to see!

Note that-
2019 verbal commits cannot sign a binding National Letter of Intent until the early signing period November 14-21, 2018.
However, to reflect the current scholarship situation, I have updated the Scholarship Grid-

Do we know who the other recruits that are on campus this weekend are here....like the Hemenway kid?:doubt:

Bradley just got a commitment from super athletic 6'7" forward Stephan Gabriel ....

The PJS story on Gabriel
"Bradley hoops grabs commitment from Phoenix prep school guard" - (this is the text version to get around the paywall)

btw- Gabriel was a big wide receiver in high school

He has played some "1", some "2", and some "3" at Hillcrest Prep and in high school in Maplewood, New Jersey.
But as I posted yesterday, Stephan Gabriel refers to himself as a "wing/small forward".

One more video- this is from a training session back in May, 2017, and you can see his athleticism, quickness, leaping ability, footwork, work ethic, etc. He is definitely not a "project".
The title of the YouTube video compares him to LeBron, which is a bit silly. Gabriel has grown a couple inches since then, and has improved his ball handling, passing, and shooting.

Gabriel still might not put up consistently big numbers this year at Hillcrest Prep, because the team has at least 6 other high-major Division I caliber kids on the team, including Jeron Artest (son of Ron Artest), 4-star shooting guard Dalen Terry, 6'9" power forward Dischon Thomas, who is already committed to Nevada, 6'11" 2020 forward Davion Bradford who already has several high major offers including Illinois, 2021 SG prospect Dimitrios Stragalinos, and 5-star guard Kyree Walker, who just committed to Arizona State.

I noticed this..
that when in high school Stephan Gabriel was an honor roll student!

He was also a pretty good football player at Columbia HS in Maplewood, NJ. Check out this article from 2017 that reports he was being recruited as a tight end by Rutgers -
https://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/...ootball_hosted_a_couple_intriguing_under.html

In addition to playing tight end, he also played wide receiver, outside linebacker, and defensive end. It looks like he gave up football to concentrate on basketball when he left Columbia HA and transferred to Hillcrest Prep--

You should have included a warning to turn off the volume on that video. :)

BTW, Gabriel wore #1 last season at Hillcrest. I can't tell which one he is in that video, but #5 doesn't look like him to me.
I think #5 is Kyree Walker, the 5-star 2020 kid who just recently committed to Arizona State.-

Baller. I watched some of the other videos, too. Love to see this kind of talent coming to the MVC.

Bradley fans are excited about his potential. So are the coaches, and they love his ball handling and passing skills! He only joined the Hillcrest Prep program at the end of last season, and did not play significantly until the spring AAU events.
He will be playing on a Hillcrest Prep team this season that has a bunch of other highly rated recruits, but I still expect him to put up some nice numbers.

As noted above, Gabriel's Hillcrest Prep team has at least 6 other high-major Division I caliber kids on the team, including Jeron Artest (son of Ron Artest), 4-star shooting guard Dalen Terry, 6'9" power forward Dischon Thomas, who until recently was committed to Nevada, 6'11" 2020 forward Davion Bradford who already has several high major offers including Illinois, 2021 SG prospect Dimitrios Stragalinos, who Bradley just offered, and 5-star guard Kyree Walker, who just committed to Arizona State.
