Depaul Head Coach- Lowery?

Just like to know what the board says about the Depaul job and who will be getting it, I have read that Lowery is a leading candidate.

Who do you think will be the Depaul coach and is Jim Les a candidate?
 
Ha - I thought you were announcing a hire... LOL...

I have heard that many coaches in the area including half the MVC have been contacted to gauge interest or find new names, but I also suspect a few other top assistants might also be in the mix.
Some AD's might restrict permission in the heat of the conference races, so I also suspect DePaul might not hire anyone 'til the season's over so other candidates might become available.
The top two names mentioned from unofficial sources are Chris Lowery and Dayton's Brian Gregory.
Just based on wins and recruiting prowess over the past two seasons, I'd have to then give the nod to Gregory as the leading contender.
Some sites say Gregory wouldn't leave Dayton for DePaul...but that's like saying Mark Fox wouldn't leave Nevada for Georgia or Calipari wouldn't leave UMass for Memphis..
It all boils down to the terms, and if he gets good money to move to a power conference, then he will..........and so would Lowery if the chance comes.
 
I really don't see Gregory leaving Dayton for DePaul...a bad fit IMHO...


I would suspect that Martin from Missouri State would be a candidate as would Jankovich...I could see Martin being a good fit, but Jankovich not so much...


Other than that, who would be the other Valley candidates you speak of? Jake at UNI is seen as a good profile coach w/ decent credentials, but I don't see DePaul liking him as a fit there since he doesn't recruit Chicagoland at all.


So Martin, Lowery, and possibly Jank is all I can think of...
 
I would love to see lowery get the position, but I would hate to see a good coach leave the valley, even if he has given BU headaches for years. The Valley needs to hold on to coaches like Les, Altman and Lowery to improve the conference.

I also do not think that the rumors could be helping the SIU team right now, or his recruiting efforts, it has to be somewhat of a distraction.

Actually I really don't see Lowery hurting BU all that much...I think the record v Lowery is much better than that v Painter's or Weber's Salukis (or at least w/ their players)....Not certain of that, just sticks in my mind...

I could care less what the other schools do! What our school does is of the utmost importance...
 
Lowery has been mentioned in other jobs and I just don"t see DePaul hiring a coach that has not been successful the last 2 years. Martin would probably be more of a better fit as he recruited Chicago for Purdue and his stock has to be on the rise after his quick turn around at Mo.St.
 
they'd love to get McCallum because of his coinnections with many of the top AAU programs and top prospects

Unless a post was deleted I don't see where anybody is making that assumption BB. As for DePaul's next coach I think Jank would be a good fit. He's got a Big 12 pedigree and would probably get a good reference from Bill Self. I would think that he would be a definite front runner.

The Valley is not going to move up or be respected as a conference unless it improves top to bottom. Thats why I think we should care about what the other schools do. I cheer for all the Valley teams during the non conference season, any win they get helps BU and the Valley.
 
Personally I dont see the whole fasination with Lowery.

When he won he won with Painters/Webers' recruits and last night most of his coaching revolved around getting upset with his players. He does not strike me as a master tactitian.

The guy I think can recruit because that SIU team is full of talented guys, but he appears to have had issues every single season with discipline and has had players come and go since is hiring.

Honestly, I think he is an OK coach but I doubt the Valley or SIU would miss him as much as he thinks they would.

Seems to me DePaul might have a better version of Lowery already as its head coach... and likely cheaper.
 
Since the beginning of 2007 when Lowery had effecitvely most of his own players..
he has gone -
18-15, 11-7 (he really still had Falker, Shaw, Boyle and even Mullins who were all Painter recruits)
13-18, 8-10
10-7, 3-5
Totals...41-40, 22-22

there is a clear correlation...the fewer the Painter leftovers, the worse the team...
 
I have no doubt that C-Lo can recruit, especially in Chicago. Dillard is a stud, even though his season has been up and down. Ryan Hare was a good frosh last year, then ran into some trouble.

I just don't know if C-Lo can coach. If he went to DePaul, he could use a solid assistant that has coached the game before but either past his prime or not interested in a head position anymore...

I'm not talking about DV, either...
 
a Tribune blog now says that DePaul will NOT likely go after another mid-major coach and want someone higher profile than Lowery or Dayton's Brian Gregory..
there is talk of going for Billy Gillispie, but there will also be a lot of negatives there, but one new name has forged to the front..
Rod Strickland...an all time DePaul great who is currently one of the top guys working right now under John Calipari at Kentucky,
and who is reportedly open to taking the DePaul top spot.......

He is young and energetic, reportedly doing a good job of recruiting (although players recruit Cal, not the other way around..), and he would be intensely loyal to DePaul and have a really vested interest in success there because it's his own alma mater...
