Digger Phelps is clueless!

A poster on the another Bradley message board posted a rough transcript of the discussion of the Valley's NCAA prospects from tonight's College Gameday before the Duke/North Carolina game. Basically Digger Phelps showed his utter disdain toward the Valley by saying the Valley will get only 3 or maybe 4bids. In addition, after his collegues suggested that the Valley should get 5 bids, Digger responded by saying that he really wants to see the Valley get 5 teams in, in a very sarcastic tone! Add to this that he doesn't think the Valley deserves 5 bids since most of their top 50 wins came against each other, and UNI's wins against LSU and Iowa came early in the season! Is this guy for real?!

Hey Digger, buy a clue! Your BCS conferences do the same thing! And the last time I checked, they schedule their non-conference games early in the year, too! At least Bilas used some data to back up his comments, and he then clarified what we've been saying all along anyway. Commentary only works when you have facts to back up your opinions Digger! Your disdain and smugness towards the Valley only helps to damage your reputation as a "reputable commentator" for your network! Please wake up from your dreamland and use some common sense and objectiveness during your analysis of the bracket and the Valley!

Digger just said again on PTI that the valley will only get 3 teams!!!

Yes and did you see Wilbon's reaction? " :-o THREE?? "

Leave it to a real writer who actually cares about sports and not matching his ties with his highlighters to show the audacity of these comments.

Again, if someone feels that only three teams will be chosen from the Valley based on factual information, and not just because one has a disdain toward certain conferences, I could see that. But Digger just seems to rag on mid-majors because he feels they don't belong in the same division as the "big boys"! I don't think Digger will feel better until most of the mid-majors branch off into a Division I-AA type of format.

Talk about a person sticking their nose up against certain teams! Sheesh!

what an absoloute freak, what's with the hating of mid-majors-was his team at notre dame ever decent?

go buy a new tie queer

Digger specifically ragged on BU and its poor shooting Sunday. Then he stated that BU was not in the same class as Seton Hall.

I saw Digger's discussion of why he thinks the Valley is overrated, and he uses an illogical, circular reasoning.

He starts with the fact that they are overrated and don't deserve the lofty RPI they have.
Then he points out that a lot of the Top-50 wins they have are all against teams that are also Valley teams, and therefore overrated, so the conclusion is that they have not performed that well, and that he is enough of an expert to figure that out while the rest of us are still naive.

Here is where I have a problem with that.
The RPI and the use of it by the NCAA was originally to have a solid, numerical, objective measure to keep teams like Bradley and the Valley OUT OF THE NCAA. It was so they could use it to prove the 5th place team in the ACC or Big East (their favorite conferences) was better than even the champion of the Valley, so the Valley only deserved a 2nd bid after the 5-6th place teams in the power conferences got in.

But I argue if it was invented so we'd have a fair and objective measure that gets it right, why is it suddenly all wrong?
They use the RPI as long as it favors their power/eastern conference needs, then they want to discard it whenever it favors the Valley.
I think they are hypocrites.
We (the Valley people) never invented the RPI, it is "their system"! But now they want to change the rules just as soon as it no longer favors them.
They're a bunch of weenies, and unable to accept the consequences of their own system.

Kinda strattling threads here ...

Snell just said on Jim Les Live that Digger is one of the "talking heads" that get paid to "stir up the pot"

Also on the Jim Les show, I thank you Steve who called in and agreed with me by saying that Digger Phelps was never a good basketball coach.

There's someone who knows what he's talking about.

You may know what you are talking about. Steve, after listening to his frequent call ins, I am not so sure???????????????

"I watched the Bradley Southern Illinois game." *PAUSE* And it was tough to watch.

Sorry Digger, we play DEFENSE in our league. I know you're not used to seeing that.

At least Bilas had the scones to defend his comments. I don't see the arrogant ND man following suit.

the valley & bradley actually play defense, were not some hyped up players & teams who try justify their "hyped stated" by trying to put on nba all star games with 100-98 point games. stupid digger.

Not to beat a dead horse (which kind of describes Digger Phelps pretty accurately), but you've got to love it when he rags on the Bradley-Southern game ("I watched the Bradley Southern Illinois game." *PAUSE* And it was tough to watch."), but when the Big 10 tournament has games with equally low scores and poor offense, it's because they're a "rugged league" that plays tough defense, they're a bunch a grinders that are playing Big 10 Basketball, and every other excuse for poor shooting, turnovers, and low scores. Seems to me like a double standard.

And I wonder what Digger thinks about Seton Hall now.....

Talking about butt-ugly,
some of the Big East games were worse than any of the MVC games.
Louisville had only 4 points 15 minutes into the game,
the Boston College/UNC game yesterday was so filled with fouls, and sloppy play that it looked like a couple of rugby teams, and yet the broadcasters called it a great game, just rugged. It is obvious that Digger must remember some humiliating loss he suffered as a coach at the hands of the MVC, and is so biased thathe can't think straight.

The second half was tough...SIU was playing great and we fell apart...it happens. I have watched the first half 2 times and it was some good hoops. I still would like to know what happened....BU had the game in hand IF they play like they did in the first half...guess thats why they play 40 minutes.
