The FBI probe into corruption in college recruiting is getting juicier by the day.
ESPN is now reporting that FBI wiretaps recorded Arizona head coach Sean Miller discussing paying top recruit DeAndre Ayton $100,000 to ensure that he signed with Arizona-

FBI wiretaps intercepted telephone conversations between Arizona coach Sean Miller and Christian Dawkins, a key figure in the FBI's investigation into college basketball corruption, in which Miller discussed paying $100,000 to ensure star freshman Deandre Ayton signed with the Wildcats, sources familiar with the government's evidence told ESPN.

According to people with knowledge of the FBI investigation, Miller and Dawkins, a runner working for ASM Sports agent Andy Miller, had multiple conversations about Ayton. When Dawkins asked Miller if he should work with assistant coach Emanuel "Book" Richardson to finalize their agreement, Miller told Dawkins he should deal directly with him when it came to money, the sources said.

The telephone calls between Miller and Dawkins were among 3,000 hours of conversations intercepted from Dawkins' phone alone by the FBI.

With that much tape, it seems certain that there will be a lot more coaches and schools revealed to have been cheating and paying recruits and players. Stay tuned.

once all this money for cash payoffs dry up we will see a bunch of the "diploma-mill" prep schools and AAU programs dry up..
Stories of AAU bosses with enormous wads of 100 dollar bills have been circulating for eons...

what's crazy is that even if Arizona has cause to fire Sean Miller- the contract says they would still have to pay him thru 2022
roughly $11 million!! So obviously they will NOT want to fire the guy and will back him for 4 years if necessary!!
BTW- just how dirty is Arizona - they simultaneously have players who are suspended for cheating with drugs and then they have
players obviously who SHOULD be suspended for betting cash payments, and they have coaches who were suspended anf fried for making payments!!

and the story about Anthony Davis getting paid to go to Kentucky has been dragged out again and looks a whole lot more credible in today's light

The Tucson paper is calling on Miller to resign and Arizona to decline an NCAA bid. Maybe all this opens up a bid for Loyola?

All the schools should pay every cent of the money back and they do not participate in the sport for several years. Where are the Power 5 schools now? There wont be any left. I say good. They should be called the Corrupt 5 now

when NCAA admitted that Bradley's violation in 2005 was minor, inadvertent and did NOT involve a single penny going from anyone affiliated with Bradley to any athlete - they still decided to come down hard & fast ...
sending TWO field agents immediately to campus to scour files and find dirt...
then they made their decision on punishment with WEEKS!!! ..and of course Patrick O'Bryant was punished, had to pay the $$ back and Bradley was punished and denied on appeals...

Why does investigation of the big-boys get delayed for years, then it takes many more years to complete the investigation, then many more years to finally decide on what minimal punishment to hand down? Finally when they do name punishment - everyone involved has moved on, graduated, are already making MILLIONS in the NBA, or long been fully paid and the violators NEVER get punished -

btw- the top Arizona recruit for 2018 just tweeted something to the effect of a big decision coming shortly - possible decommitting

Just read that Marshall and WSU are implicated in this probe also. Maybe we just found out how they got so good so quick.

There are now conflicting reports on the whole Miller situation. I think everyone would be wise to see how this plays out before making comments. A lot of the events that occurred don't seem to have anything to do with institutions. This was more about an agent trying to line up business by any means possible.

To say the coaches did not know all this was going on is a crock of crap. I remember Bradley got hammered several years ago for what was it again "lack of institutional control". Now for the coaches in the Corrupt 5 to use that as an excuse is bogus. Start throwing these people in prison. By the way I believe that is how they got Al Capone. He was not paying taxes on the under the table money

coach Wardle was on 1470 this morning. He compared this news and the cheating in MBB to the steroid era in the MLB 20 yrs ago, saying that everyone kinda suspects or knows some programs are cheating but no one will do anything about it (In reference to the NCAA).

The more light shed on this by the fbi the more interesting it gets.

the only people who have objections to the FBI looking into this seem to be the coaches & fans of programs with the most to lose when the truth is known....

Sean Miller held a press conference today at Arizona and denied the entire ESPN report of him being caught on a wire tap discussing playing a recruit to come to Arizona. He will remain the head coach for now.

Sports Illustrated article suggests some of the information in the original ESPN article may not be correct-

The FBI needs to either prevent the leaking of info, or release the facts they have publicly.
