Forget Roth, offer Sean Johnson

All world tonight with 35 points and some nice passes, a very smart player that I think would be able to be a great role player for BU.

Sean Johnson is a nice complimentary player to Matt Roth, but lets be serious. He's not a DI contributor. He's Chris Mroz with maybe a little better shot.

Let's set our sights a little higher... How does he do with a guy like Tatum guarding him? :)

Some may disagree.....

Roy and Harv Schmidt of Illinois Prep Bullseye were on hand to scout.
"Maybe the best individual performance in a sectional final we've seen since Tom Kleinschmidt for (Chicago) Gordon Tech against (Westchester) St. Joe's (in 1991)," Roy Schmidt said.

Another quote.....

"I have to believe he could certainly play Division 1 somewhere at a mid-major level," Roy Schmidt said. "Missouri Valley teams, Horizon teams, the MAC (Mid-American Conference), I think they'd be crazy not to offer to this kid."

I thought BU was trying to not be like the Horizon, the MAC and others? I thought the MVC was trying to shed its Mid-major identity?

Who does well with a guy like Tatum guarding them?

Is this a hypothetical question?

Or is the answer truly..."Another prisoner?"

Sean Johnson is way better than Chris Mroz ever was...

Did you ever see Chris Mroz play in high school? He was an all-catholic league player and didn't have someone like Matt Roth drawing all of the attention from him. Sean Johnson is not someone BU should be offering a scholarship to, as some have stated in this thread. He's a nice HS player who feeds well off of Matt Roth. He could probably be a decent walk-on at a place like BU, or maybe get some time at a low-major like EIU, etc.

Just because his performance was on par with individual performances of other DI players like Tom Kleinschmidt doesn't mean that he's that caliber of player. It's like saying because someone has a Jordan-esque game that they're on the same level as Michael Jordan.

Ok using that logic then.. is Sam Maniscalco someone like Mroz but wit a much better overall game?

Mroz was always over his head here... like a Lavin exceot he gets time in a game?

:-o

My goodness, if Sam is like Mroz I may start Jim Les bashing for recruiting him!

I have seen all of them play, have you? Sam is twice the player now that Johnson is on his best day.

I agree Sam is.. I am saying that Johnson is better than Mroz...

Johnson may very well be better than Mroz, but he isn't the primary star for his team. Would Johnson have scored 35 if Cortney Smith were trailing him all over the place? I highly doubt it. Johnson is a very good player, but looks even better since he is not the primary focal point of ANY team that plays Washington. Roth takes all the attention and Johnson does a nice job of stepping up and being the type of player they need him to be for them to be successful. Illinois Wesleyan would be a tremendous fit for him.
