Former Bradley Star Beaten and Robbed

wow - that is terrible -- we saw and chatted at length with Bayo just last fall when we went up to a Cubs game - he works part time at a restaurant across the street from Wrigley...
I hope they catch the thugs and get his things back

could be - what makes you suspicious?? I have to admit the large amount of cash is unusual but Bayo had done well for himself after years of being successful playing ball overseas, he lived in a nice area and had a great job in Chicago.......

When talking with Bayo you can't help but admire the guy - he is a polite and personable guy but who knows - maybe he was in with some seedy guys??

He speaks often and freely of his faith, family, friends.....he readily talks of how he works hard to get where he's gotten.
In his part time job as a security guy he probably makes a few people mad, so that may be the connection...but I do not know...

BTW -- just do a search - condos in that area of town go for minimum of 80K and up to $300K - it is a very nice area with expensive condos

Who keeps that kind of money around their house in cash? I know he did well for himself, but to keep that kind of money around in cash in your house is just not to bright.

Normally if I see a story like this something shady is going on. I am willing to give the bennefit of the doubt though since he played pro ball and probably made good money for a number of years.

I agree that it seems strange to keep that much cash around....but many are advising others to keep more(than normal) cash on hand with our global economy the way it is.

Who is advising keeping cash around and why? (Actual question)

Well nobody is saying you should keep 100k laying around(if they have that much)...and I don't have the names in front of me but articles that talk about concern regarding global financial meltdown and having several months of cash to live on because they believe we MAY not have access to our money like we do right now.
While it seems farfetched......alot of things that seemed farfetched have happened in the last 5 years.

My mother is one :-) because the interest rates you make at the bank are miserable and she does not trust the bankers anymore. Honestly she keeps a wad of cash in a hidden place at her house. Her belief is if someone gets intot he bank and screws with the electronic systems cash will be king. until they fix it. :-o

That's the argument for gold; I haven't really seen it for cash. If the banks (and government) actually were to collapse, cash would likely be worthless as well.

SFP: I know there are people that don't trust banks, but I was really asking about a financial adviser (or the like) recommending something like this.

Obviously $100k seems crazy to keep on hand unless...

I know but I never trusted William Devane either.:o..I really doubt financial advisors are suggesting this...

If there is a total collapse of the dollar we will have much bigger things to worry about. Also gold will be worthless as well. I doubt if all hell breaks out that anyone will be selling things that will maintain them and their family for gold. in other words, I'm not trading a my food source (a cow) for any amount of gold.
