Gus Macker article by Dave Reynolds

The first link about the Macker is a shortened article. The article that appeared in Monday's PJ Star is much longer, and contains a lot more about the games Sunday and the Bruce Wayne team that won the top division over Sauk Valley.

The full article contains a report about a game earlier in the day between Frank Williams' team, and the Bruce Wayne team that eventually won the title. The Williams team (containing Frank Williams and 2 of his brothers) was trailing late in the game by 1 point when Frank Williams "angrily engaged opposing player Ericson Beck verbally and physically, according to eyewitnesses."
Though it was only the first loss for the Williams' team (it takes 2 losses to be eliminated) and they could have still been in contention for the title, they did not show for their next game against Sauk Valley. So the Rockford team was awarded the victory in a forfeit. And Frank Williams went home a sore loser.

I read the newspaper version and did not notice that the online version was not the complete article. Thanks for pointing that out.

I wasn't there, so I can't say what happened to make the Williams team quit and go home early after they lost. Dave Reynolds inteviewed David Roos and Ericson Beck who seem to think they just got frustrated they lost. I suspect Frank just assumed he sould win the championship because he's a pro.

If anyone was there or has any additional information about what happened, let us know.

Frank's team was down by 1 point with about 1 minute left in the game to Roos' team and Roos' team just kept stalling. Frank's team would foul to try and get the ball back, but the way the Macker's rules are set up it's impossible to get the ball back at the end of a game unless you get a steal because if the other team misses the free throw, they still retain possesion of the ball. I think that's what Roos was referring to in the article, Frank's team was frustrated because they could not prevent Roos' team from winning the game with the way the rules were structured.
