ICC Mens Basketball Ranked #5 Nationally

The preseason poll for junior colleges has been released.

ICC is ranked #5 in the D-II junior college poll.
There are 113 Division II junior colleges (PM me if you want an explanation of the difference between D-II and D-I jucos).
Their National Tournament this year will be held in Danville, IL, March 21-24, 2007.

They note Shang Ping is a 2nd Team Preseason All-American.

The NJCAA polls also contain a little text about some of the ranked teams, but they really have a lot of text about ICC. Here is what they say:

"#5 Illinois Central College
Illinois Central looks to bounce back after a disappointing 15-16 overall record in 2005-06 with the talents of second-team pre-season All-American Shan Ping (6-10, 225). An All-Region 24 selection last year, Ping averaged 14.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game to lead the team as a freshman.

Ping, a native of Harbin, China, has the ability to play all three positions on the court. His potential is so great that he recently gave a verbal commitment to play his next two seasons at the University of Nebraska.

Along with Ping, Illinois Central welcomes back Jeff Wires (5-8, 165) to run the point guard position. Wires contributed 9.0 points and 4.5 assists per contest.

Illinois Central is also anticipating a big year from transfer Brandon Lee, who comes to the Cougars after a falling out at Northwestern University. Lee led Peoria Central High School to back-to-back Illinois Class AA State Championships in 2003 and '04, while being heralded as one of the best high school talents in the region.
