Jamar's lawyer says in a new Chicago Tribune story:

"Jamar will plead not guilty"

"Jamar Smith -- charged with drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident -- was preparing to surrender to police after a warrant was issued for his arrest"

"Smith had not turned himself in to authorities as of 2 p.m., according to the Champaign County state's attorney's office."

"Smith plans to plead not guilty to the charges and will request a jury trial.
"Jamar and I are confident that this matter can be appropriately resolved in due course"

Hey, if OJ didn't do it, then I am convinced beyond a reasonable doubt Jamar is not guilty of ANY wrongdoings on that night.

Great quote Dallas Brave, I luv it!

Another good quote in this morning's edotions

"Lipton said some reports about the crash have been inaccurate"

interp.: "most all of what everyone has been saying has been right from the get-go"

William Riley (dean of students) tells CBS 2 his investigation will begin within the week into student code violations like underage drinking, which may have led to reckless endangerment of another student

So the dean is planning soon to begin to investigate to see if there might have been underage drinking?
This guy sounds like a real Sherlock Holmes!
Most of the players who are involved are underaged, and there have already been admissions of drinking tequila and beer, not to mention JS's 0.176 blood alcohol (done hours after the accident). What more does this dean need to confirm suspicions of underaged drinking.
It is stuff like this that makes you think these baqsketball players are getting special treatment.

More from the Daily trickle of leaks--
http://cbs2chicago.com/topstories/local_story_052231703.html

The circumstances preceeding and following this accident are beginning to sound so outrageous, that the Champaign States attorney will simply not be able to sweep them under the rug like they were able to do with the Luther Head, Rich McBride criminal charges.

Hmmmm....

Interesting couple comments at the bottom of the article:

"William Riley says that basketball coach Bruce Weber could impose his own sanctions on the other players involved for violating team rules or conduct detrimental to the program."

and then this:

"But Weber has not done that yet, and he has not been available to talk about it. All those players were available for Wednesday night???‚¬?„?s victory over Michigan."

Hmmmm.....

If the other players get 'suspensions' for violating team rules... when will they serve them?

If there are gonna be suspensions, they might want to get them in before post-season. And doesn't the committee consider if personnell is not going to be available during NCAA games? I recall a big stink over the George Mason player that got suspended in the 1st game of the NCAA last year for punching an opponent in the crotch in his most recent game.

Or if suspensions are enforced now, could that jeopardize their at-large chances if they suffer losses at Penn St, Iowa or the B10 Tourney?

Whew!

Lot of things in question here. Where is BW's integrity?

I heard OJ was in the backseat that night! Plus everybody was saying Jamar couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, I don't know about that, be he at least proved he could hit a tree. I still laugh everytime I think about OJ trying on those gloves in court, acting as if there was no way they could possibly fit on his hand, his facial expressions and hand gestures were priceless.

Haven't you seen any of the Naked Gun series - OJ was one heckuva(n) actor - LOL!

Smith was on the bench at last nights game, supposedly Weber let the team vote on the issue. Are the nuts running the asylum.?

PROVE to a jury that he didn't drink after the accident and not before.

This whole situation is a joke, right?

Player crashes a car, tests above the legal limit for alcohol, is under age, has a teammate in his car who he leaves the sceen of an accident with, driver goes to his home, where he goes in the home, leaving other teammate in the car, with the weather temperature under or at freezing, comes back out to car with another person, returns to his home, does not call help, apparently other teammates are in this home and all decide it is best to not contact help, but is after all this welcome the driveris welcome to sit on the University of Illinois bench? And the University says they will investigate eventually?

If this situation were to a student from where ever majoring in whatever but was 5 10 160 he would not have been on any bench at any game he would have been expelled from school and this so called investigation would have already been signed sealed and delivered.

Don't need to, as the police took a statement from Jamar Smith and Smith has already attested to the fact that he did not drink after the accident and before the blood test.

And where my kids go to school....even if an athlete isn't drinking, if he is AT an event or party where underage drinking is going on, and if he doesn't leave and immediately report it, he is as guilty as if he were to have drank himself, and is immediately ineligible.
Most schools do it that way, but apparently Bruce Weber knows he wouldn't have a team left, and probably wouldn't have a job left if he stuck to any discipline.

Hey, I got an idea, Bruce Weber to New Mexico and Ritchie McKay to UIUC.
