I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this yet even though it's the NBA. After all these years of coaching, it appears the new age star player egos just got to him. Deron Williams and Jerry have been going at it all season and Wednesday night was the final straw when Williams decided to take the play calling into his own hands.

I also think that Williams forced Sloan to keep rookie Gordon Hayward on the bench when Williams is on the court. Hayward got about 25 minutes the first 2 games of the season and did fairly well, but in that 3rd game, Hayward messed up a route on an offensive set and Williams totally ripped into him on live TV. Gordon just kind of shrugged it off but Williams kept following and other teammates had to pull him away. Ever since then, Hayward has been lucky to see 10 minutes on the court.

I believe Sloan was Les's coach also wasn't he? Back in the Stockton/Malone era?

Yes -- Jerry Sloan was HEAD COACH of the Chicago Bulls from 1979 thru 1981, and coached in Utah from 1981 thru 2011...so he's actually been coaching now 32 years -- 23 of them consecutively in Utah as head coach...but also was a Utah assistant before that....

Jim Les played in Utah in 1988-1989 and 1989-1990...but some of that was under head coach Frank Layden and some under Sloan.

In Jim Les' first year in Utah, 1988-1989, Frank Layden was the head coach for the first 17 games, then he stepped down for health issues, and that's when Jerry Sloan took over and finished out that year and has remained head coach ever since.

ONE last Jerry Sloan note -- long before Evansville was part of the Missouri Valley -- Jerry Sloan actually was their head coach...but only for five days as he took the job right away after retiring from professional play, then 5 days later realized the time and effort he'd have to put into it and stepped down before ever coaching a game.

It sounds like there is more going on than just a clash with Williams. Williams also hasn't been known to have a "star player ego" either. Sloan has been a great coach.
