Welcome back Kirk.
As many posters here know, there were a flurry of strange rumors at the end of last week. We did not believe them then, and would not allow most of them to be perpetuated on this forum.

Kirk Wessler comments on them in his column for Wednesday's edition (3/31).

Wessler: Is March going out like a lyin'?

The rumor mill
The phone calls started last Thursday night, in the middle of watching the Kansas State-Xavier game. They kept on coming, non-stop, all through Friday. ...
Did you hear? Jim Les was fired as Bradley basketball coach. ... Or he was going to be fired at any moment. ... Or he had been bought out of his contract. ... Or he was about to be bought out of his contract. ... And why doesn’t the Journal Star know about this? ...
Um, because it wasn’t true? ...
Thirty-five years in this business, I’ve heard a few rumors. But I can’t recall ever so much ado about nothing. Usually, rumors this wrong come from crackpots. What elevated this one and created a busy night and day of reporting — only to come up empty — was that the voices coming over the phones belonged to rational, sensible people. And they were so insistent. Some are pro-Les, some anti-Les, and some don’t have a dog in this particular hunt but had heard all about it. ...
From whom? Who knows? But every call came with the same REO Speedwagon refrain. ... “Heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard it from another ...” I think somebody was messin’ around and laughed his, or her, lungs out all weekend. ...
Usually, we don’t acknowledge rumors when they’re found to lack substance. When they’ve gone viral, though, it’s not a bad thing to attach a warning label: Don’t believe everything you hear. ...

Good to have some confirmation. Start countdown to next moment of drama. I'm hoping it's all positive "drama" related to coaching hires and recruiting...

So the "rumors" are completely false??

KW--
"Thirty-five years in this business, I’ve heard a few rumors. But I can’t recall ever so much ado about nothing."

Hope some who have tried to hurt others and smear their reputation see fit to offer apologies..but I doubt it...
and I knew within 3 responses in this thread would be some attacks against the fans.

Who said they don't believe him.....? Not a single person has questioned his article/report.

Whats funny is that some attack him when they disagree with what he says but are sure quick to USE him when they agree with what he reports.

Personally I have always respected him wether I agree with what he writes or not. His credibility is something I have never questioned.

The point Dogs is making is people are sure quick to use his viewpoints when they support their own as quickly as they slam him when he rants on BU. You can't have it both ways. It's not whether he's right or wrong either.

message board posters do have the same rights as KW..
he takes swipes at things and points out errors....
and so do message board posters...........

but the difference is that while message board posters stand up for his right to do as he chooses..
both HE and some message board posters do NOT stand up for the rights of the other posters...
they just keep taking swipes...

With all the erroneous rumors and reports lately (rumors of multiple player defections, head coach being fired, Wilkins verballing to Iowa State, etc...)
- even some of these were reported BY the PJS (the JW verbal)...
guess which site has been the ONLY ONE that has correctly called every single one of these issues??
So - if you want to talk credibility - then leave the PJS and their message board off the list

But DRU, have you noticed something about this column? Where is the usual KW sarcasm? It isn't there which makes this column a decent read. I have repeatedly stated in my disagreements with KW that KW would be a much better journalist without the sarcasm.

and more than the news about the rumors....note he says plainly that he never reports on rumors when they are false..
so the bigger news is that he reported on these rumors....which I find interesting....thus the real purpose of the column wasn't to actually report on the rumors but to report that lots of people are "lyin'" "crackpots" (his words)..
and "Don’t believe everything you hear. ..."

,,,but here's even more to laugh at...
I have already been told this morning by someone who still buys into the ruomrs..
"yeah...but he can only report on what he knows, and he just doesn't know the truth like I do..." (like maybe if it happens next year or the year after, or the year after....etc..then it will still confirm he was right!)
:roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:

also - on the rumor message board, the whole thread propagating and detailing all the "facts" of this rumor is still up (help us out mrcoachdude)...even all the fine detail assuring us know-nothings how smart the rumor-spreading guys are and how they have all this right down to the exact amount being paid out and the precise time the ink dried on the agreement, and a "look at the math".

so how come if KW and DR are often on those message boards...that they were strangely silent and absent from them while all this false rumors & lies-stuff is going on...
and they still haven't confronted the false prophets and called them out..
are they afraid to to??

kudos to the mods that did the right thing here and trashed the lies...
and people wonder why some think there is an agenda...:roll::roll::roll::roll:

I actually heard about the rumors while I was down in St. Louis this weekend for the tourney. First place I looked for some discussion was on here, didn't see any. Looked on the PJS board and saw the discussion going on over there. Most of the posters over there acknowledged that they were discussing was rumors, not cold hard facts or anything else. I found that discussion interesting and from that realized that the rumors were just that, rumors and nothing more.

Of course you can. Everyone does it in every walk of life.

If something is true or is a valid opinion, you can agree with it.
If it is wrong, you can disagree and call the person out for their mistakes.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and some are right and some are wrong.
The biggest difference between KW and the rest of us is that he gets paid to write something, whether he has anything to say or not, and whether he is right or not.

There have been KW columns in the past that were just plain wrong, and people here have pointed them out.

bigdaddy, there was a thread that was eventually removed on that board, that had multiple posters insisting the story came from reliable sources like Bradley board members! There were posters who mocked anyone who didn't buy into the rumor, and many others who chimed in with the "I heard it, too, so it must be true". There was only the rare level headed poster like mrcoachdude.
It was only after a couple days passed and nothing official came out that the rumor-mongers started to back off a bit. But there are some still espousing this whole thing!

I will tell you that I am the one who passed the information onto BigDaddy. I got a phone call while in St. Louis from someone who had heard it from a local high school A.D.

I never passed it to anyone else, and I did not post the information on the internet either. I assumed it was a rumor.

I also did not believe that BU would do it right before the LOI period.

It is interesting though that I heard this story/rumor from an unusual source.
