Making Progress

Now that's what we've been waiting for. Several people stepping up,mainly JP,JE and Sticks. DD had a very good game and Will is starting to get it. Sometimes he still does some dumb things but I believe he's making progress. AW was his usual self got us some big buckets when we needed them. This was a very fun game to watch. Can't say that about very many this year but I really think we are improving. The road in the Valley has always been tough for us so we will see what happens next week at ISU blue. I think we may surprise some people if we continue to make progress

Agree...if Will could figure out how to commit two less dumb fouls a game, he'd be a big time player in the league...that said, glad he found his aggressiveness in the 1st half.

WE need a new rule from the bench....WE cannot touch a PG, he gets physical every time he does the switch..and your center should not be getting a foul or two every game 30-35' from the hoop!

WE just needs to remember he can not play defense on the wings, or on switches, the way he is allowed to play in the post vs 4's and 5's .

One switch out top, you could just see the foul coming on WE from 1500 miles away (in Phoenix via Channelsurfing.com)! He jumps out and tries to body up on the wing/guard who he had to pick up....TWEET!

One other point.....apologies to WC, how can a team (Detroit) go from 12+ fouls in the FH to nothing in the first 13 minutes of the SH? Inconsistent officiating as usual in the MVC....BU gets every call in the FH, Detroit every call in the SH....

Listening to Snell this year on the radio, it seems he has been calling out officials by name a lot more this year during games than in years past. As in, this guys call is bad, oh no another call from xxx, or, you can tell yyy is a major conference official and gets Tournament games by the quality of his officiating...

No offense taken AZ. Anytime we have Jerry Pollard on a game...well you know the rest. He's not one of my favorites. Heard through the grapevine that Dave is having breakfast on occasion with a group of officials on Friday mornings. Maybe he and the officials are learning something. Dave has seen enough games in his career to know a well officiated game verses a bad worked game.As much as I like to defend the stripes when they should be defended. Did you see who was on the Illinois game last night. Higgens(or Baywatch) and Sanzere get to work the big games and we get the leftovers(Pollard). I thought the stripes did an acceptable job last night except for protecting the ball handler. Foul differences between halves can change if a team adjusts to what is being called so not to concerned with what took place there but you had to be tough to get the ball up the court if you were a guard in the second half.No protection what so ever for the ball handler.

Good observation on Will as far as him putting his body on a player out front after a switch, he needs to just give ground to the opposing player when they are so far away from the basket as it becomes very obvious to an official when he makes contact in the open.

Pollard is not one of my favorites but only made a few calls last night, Higgins is pretty good but Sanzere is over rated and playing with the wrong ball and not checking it out when the players were complaining says it all , thought the stripes were fair last night which is all I expect, probably too many fouls called away from the ball and yes the player with the ball seemed to be getting bumped a lot but it was called the same both ways so players need to adjust .

I HATE Sanzere.

I thought the refs last night were pretty atrocious. I'm not going to say it was unfair, just bad. There were two unbelievable phantom calls on Will that pretty much put him on the bench. The only stupid foul I saw out of him was the flash out everyone's talking about. He just needs to go out there, "get in the way," and then get back into the paint because that was an obvious foul. One of the refs was also a fan of the, "I don't believe a player can be athletic enough to do what I just saw, so it must be a foul" school of refereeing-- and I think that played into calls against both teams.

The charge Eastman took in the second half was a horrible call. He was still moving and almost directly below the basket.

The block call he got later on the drive by their point was more a charge the the first.

This has been going on for years. We play games on Wednesday nights when the BCS's play Valley gets leftovers and way to often bad leftovers. The Wednesday/Saturday games really hurt the quality of offical the Valley has access too.
