3 new Div I coaches were hired yesterday-

Jeff Bzdelik of Air Force was introduced as the new head coach of Colorado of the Big 12.--

Kentucky has obtained official permission to go after Billy Donovan, but one other article says they are also planning to talk with Tom Izzo and Texas' Rick Barnes.

One other interesting article, Charles Barkley tells of when he was still in the NBA and was in Europe in the off season playing an exhibition.
He played against a team that had Dirk Nowitzki just after he finished high school....and Nowitzki scorted "like 50" so Charles said this to him:
"I said, 'I will give you any amount of money you want to go to Auburn.'"

If Kyle Korver, Hersey Hawkins, Anthony Parker said what Barkley said, in reference to CU or BU then of course it would be a violation of some sort, but since it was Barkley in reference to Auburn then of course its not anywhere near a violation.
 
Two rumors have Dana Altman and Mark Turgeon on the "A" list at Kansas State.

Sources are reporting Texas A&A coach Billy Gillespie will be the next head coach at Kentucky.

Let them have Turgeon I want Altman to hang around, not to mention I don't think he could accept another offer at this point.
 
Of the schools that still have coaching vacancies, here are some rumors--

Air Force is not saying who they are considering, but it's thought that a couple assistants and former Wyoming coach Steve McClain are possible candidates--

Harvard, which has been in no hurry to fill their vacancy, is considering Mike Jarvis. He was fired from his last coaching position at St. John???‚¬?„?s six games into the 2003 season. He was let go in the wake of the arrests of two players and a poor 2-4 start. After he left, St. John???‚¬?„?s was placed on two years???‚¬?„? probation and docked one scholarship for this season because of a financial violation under Jarvis???‚¬?„? watch involving a member of the coaching staff giving a player monthly payments. They are also considering fired Michigan coach Tommy Amaker.

Another example of what Royce Waltman said when he was fired. If a coach is fired for cheating, he always gets another job, but if you are fired for losing, nobody will hire you again.

The Boston Globe has reported that Harvard is ???‚¬?“scrambling to hire a black coach???‚¬?? after the ultra liberal institution found themselves embarrassed when it was reported that none of its 41 varsity teams have an African American coach. Harvard has never won the Ivy League, and its lone NCAA tournament appearance came in 1946.
 
As even the casual observer can see, the hiring and firing of head coaches is a monumental process, and is so totally under the spotlight and microscope, that it helps fuel this nonsense that winning and winning right away is all that matters.

I ran across a comment from Wednesday's press conference in which Dana Altman was "reintroduced" as the Creighton head coach, just 48 hours after a similar press conference had announced he was leaving.

The statement by Creighton Athletic Director Bruce Rasmussen introducing Altman appears to take a swipe at message boards.
I fail to understand how some people (and I point out it is very few people, generally media types and some in athletics) blame message boards for the sentiment I described in the 1st paragraph about how coaches are under the gun to win.

Anyway, here's the comment from AD Rasmussen---
"The coach is a strange breed. ...The coach has no place to hide. ... They neglect their families. Travel endlessly. ...full of unrelenting pressures.' This was written over 50 years ago..when...athletics was not as visible, and was also not were not dominated by message boards, chat pages...media scrutiny..

Good thing we didn't have message boards and chat pages at that time because I'd have been fired...."

I find it odd that he twice incorporates a little bit of a slam against message boards, as if Dana's crazy antics, and Creighton's 48 hours of confusion are all caused by people on message boards?

Tennessee asst. Tony Jones seems to have the inside track for the spot at Marshall.

K-State already cut Altman loose once; I can't imagine him wanting to go back there. Turgeon to K-State would be interesting.....I wonder what the KSU fans would think about having a former Jayhawk in charge of their program.

He best remember that it is the interest any enthusiasm generated by these "Fan" message boards that has helped to drive both his and Altman's salaries into the stratosphere :x
 
I agree B4L, and have been told by literally hundreds of people in the last tyear how much they use and rely on the blogs and message boards to get the up to date news about Bradley and their favorite teams. Yes, I do believe the message boards have helped swell the enthusiasm that we see leading to 9,000 boisterous fans coming to an NIT game, and thousands showing up at the airport for their team.

Harvard head coaching job is reportedly narrowed down to Mike Jarvis and Tommy Amaker.

Here is another Rick Pitino, moving up the ranks.

There is also some rumble that if Ramon Williams (assistant at DePaul) leaves to take the assistant coaching job at Virginia Tech that he's seeking, that DePaul will replace him on the assistant coaching staff with Boys to Men head coach Loren Jackson.


and one local radio station in Arkansas is strongly promoting the idea of hiring Pat Summitt (Tennessee's womens coach) as the new head coach at Arkansas.
