New details on Kansas scandal

as always....it takes the media to actually uncover the scandals at places like Kansas....we can expect it isn't gonna come from the school itself or from the NCAA!

YahooSports has revealed details about this latest Kansas scandal that'll stun even the most diehard Jayhawk fan!!
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basket...WCx2sO_B1C_AF_dA5nYcB?slug=ys-kutickets052610

*** NOTE - that all the details of this scandal were widely known at least FOUR years ago and much of the cheating dates back to 2002 and even earlier - but those involved (including players families)continued to make hundreds of thousands of dollars cheating and selling stolen Kansas tickets - and everyone just looked the other way!!

Note also that there are even alleged connections to the mob, and to cheating in the AAU circuit where the scalping money may have even "BOUGHT" players for Kansas from the already known crooked Pump brothers' AAU scams...

Currently even Bill Self's own son and Danny Manning's sons play for AAU teams run by the Pump brothers...the very same guys who are up to their necks in this $million dollar cheating scheme - that surely those coaches know about and are likely involved in as well as has been previously shown..

Here's a previous thread about this scandal and how slow things were going and how silent the Kansas people have been in hopes that like all their other cheating scandals, and similar ones at UConn & USC - things will just go away...
http://bradleyfans.com/vb/showthread.php?t=13124

trust me, if even a tenth of this crap was going on in Peoria, the entire BU athletic program would have been shut down long ago...
unfortunately too many NCAA investigators are way too busy spending entire summers checking the employment records of Star Trucking, and they just don't have time to check into how all those Pump brothers AAU players ended up at Kansas and whose pockets all that money from the Kansas fund raisers who were fraudulently stealing then selling those lucrative tix on the Black Market went to ...like Bill Self, Danny Manning, and the rest of the big names in the Kansas athltic department..

I think if you dig a little deeper...what's going to happen is a total unraveling of everything
that's happened at Kansas for a decade, including all those players who helped them win
the national title (such as Mario Chalmers) will be found to be crooked as well and will have
to be declared ineligible and KU should really forfeit everything!!

Scalping tickets is more common than you might think within college athletics and college ticket offices.

I do know a couple of people who used to do this on a much lower level than is being described in this article.

To me it sounds like one guy is already on the hook for some crimes and is trying to pull others down to save his own butt.

this is a whole lot deeper if you read in detail...
more than scalping tix, it involves fraud, stealing those tix from the ticket holders and university, using those tickets to extort contributions from big time Kansas donors, cheating the IRS, tax fraud, money laundering, then the slimy connection that funnels the $$ to those sleazy AAU crooks and presto - gobs of their AAU players end up at Kansas, and money seems to miraculously end up in the pockets of everyone in the Kansas Athletic Dept. and even Bill Self!!
If the players and their dads can make this kind of $$ under the table - then isn't that an enormous inducement for those top recruiting prospect to choose Kansas rather than anywhere else? This is why they hammered BU for a mere few hundred $$ - but here we're talking hundreds of thousands!!

More bad news for Kansas & Missouri basketball players - NCAA won't accept those online course credits any more, thus limiting the ability for those guys to work their academic fraud like they have for JR Giddens & Ricky Clemons!!

Wow this is absolutely incredible how deep this whole ticket thing at Kansas appears. This is going to be much more then penalties in the athletic department, people will go to jail and lose fortunes.

The NCAA will not be able to cover for Kansas on this one, the feds and IRS are going to work over Kansas... Karma is a Bit** Jayhawks... they are going to deserve everything they are given on this one.

Ill be shocked if Self or members of his staff are not involved directly with either the money or benefits from the money the Pump brothers were throwing around. Same goes for Mangino and his football program.

This should have death penalty written all over it for the Kansas athletics program.

The courts also ruled against the NCAA on the Florida State academic cheating issue. The NCAA wanted to not disclose the information??? but the courts said they had to release all of their findings.

this should be good for some laughs...
Kansas is about to release their spin on what happened....their version of their
"internal investigation"....
....be ready for a whitewash with a few sacrificial lambs getting slaughtered...

I am guessing Kansas will fire the baseball coach over this whole ticket scam, and give Self a raise Then ask that for the sake of the Student/Athletes and their privacy this matter is considered closed.

Karma is ready to slap them funny. Terrible timing for Kansas especially with realignment for the big boys is right around the corner. KU's football program maybe too toxic for any of the new conferences to touch and if the basketball program becomes grounded then who would want them at all.

If Morningstar, Freeman and Pump brothers have direct relationships with KU especially the Athletics program and more specificially basketball, especially Morningstar (son playing BB at KU and Pump brothers AAU teams with Selfs kid on it and Self attending retreats. Then it is almost impossible to believe non of this money made its way back to KU.

That any of this ill gotten money never made its way back to KU in forms of donations, or perks (the recruiting of players from the Pump brothers or their retreats) Someone paid for the AAU, the retreats and for the ability to recruit multipule players from the Pump AAU teams. It is incredible to even try to manipulate this into KU not benefiting in the least or everyone involved has been eliminated.

KU is acting like the parties involved are the only ones involved and that no one currently at KU was involved or benefited in anyway.

That stance is a complete crock of BS, but with the likelyhood the NCAA will either drag feet forever or will never give any serious consideration to anything done this will never affect KU or its athletics programs atleast in the eyes of the NCAA.

I have no issue with saying Self though not selling the tickets benefited and benefited handsomely because of this scam.

Reading the article on CJonline.com, it seems the KU has cooperated with the investigation. They also turned over their own internal findings and have let go 5 or 6 of the major participants.

I think they are headed in the right direction on this one. I certainly hope that players are not punished for the mistakes of a few bad people.

So you think the people at Kansas did a fair job investigating themselves?
Could be, but already the Yahoo story kinda hints that Kansas only looked so far and never bothered to find or pursue all those connections with the AAU teams and promoters who are neck deep in this, and all those players at Kansas that came from those AAU programs, and the involvement of the players' families and the land deals that appear to be ways the guy in the fund raising dept. channeled the money then sold the land & houses to other people in the athletic dept. so everyone came out with something...

Players always are the collateral damage when schools get punishment for repeated breaking of the rules. But I do hope the rules-breakers get punished. Recall that this is far from the first time Kansas has violated NCAA rules under Bill Self. They were on probation until just recently for numerous violations involving their men's and women's basketball programs, and their football program. Recall the Darnell Jackson incident, where he was given large amounts of cash by a booster, and the academic fraud concerning Darnell Arthur, Sherron Collins' sexual assault charge that was mysteriously dropped, despite the woman winning a judgement against him, and the Markieff Morris incident where he shot at people from his dormatory windw, and many more-

I think they have done well so far. I would hope that if needs be, more people involved would be punished as well.

Kansas is far from the only school that deals with some of the things listed above. The problem in college athletics today are many. IMO, many come from the fact that they are no longer student-athletes. They are kids who are given cash and gifts to come and play for one, maybe two years and go pro.

Wow - I went looking for a few more facts on this scandal and found a whole lot of really funny and varied opinions!!

--This guy ties the trail of the illegally gotten money to others including BILL SELF! ...and also proves the Athletic Director Lew Perkins knew of the ticket selling scandal as far back as November and did NOTHING about it for months!
http://www2.ljworld.com/photos/galleries/2010/may/26/ku-ticket-investigation/

--one reporter takes another reporter to task for KNOWING about this scandal four years ago but doing nothing and even worse -- kinda helping to hide the facts! (he musta been a Jayhawks fan!)
http://www2.kusports.com/news/2010/may/26/director-lew-perkins-needs-open-his-eyes/

--The Kansas University Board of Regents are "angry" and speaking out...
but oddly they have made no move to fire or remove the Athletic Director and other people who are involved. then adjourn and don't plan to meet again until late June!
http://www.fox4kc.com/news/wdaf-story-ku-regent-ticket-scandal-reax-052610,0,3895541.story

--two of the people who got the tickets and scalped them also did the same thing at Oklahoma University!
Apparently the folks at Oklahoma don't have a clue but they'd better hire an accountant!
http://www.newsok.com/kansas-ticket-scandal-touches-ou/article/3464109
http://www.koco.com/news/23691013/detail.html

--but even the usually sensible Jason Whitlock goes crazy trying to defend everyone in Kansas...and lays the whole blame on the NCAA and their greed!
http://www.kansascity.com/2010/05/26/1973956/ncaa-breeds-a-culture-of-corruption.html

but the most offensive comment made by Whitlock is this one...
"..the white guys and gals in suits, ties and skirts taking their turn at profiting
off the work of Sherron Collins, Brandon Rush, Mario Chalmers and all the rest"

sooo... this is all the typical bad white guys committing all the crimes and hurting the others? why is this guy making this a racial issue.....he oughta apply for Pam Adams' job!
Was it all white guys involved in these scandals at Kansas??
a quick check shows 20-30 different incidents in just the past couple years of Kansas players and their legal issues and arrests..most were not white...

Hopefully with the the FBI and IRS involved with this illicit ticket scalping scandal, the facts will come out and all offenders punished criminally, if not by the NCAA.

I suspect this goes way beyond just KU, and involves many other big time NCAA Universities. If this kind of ticket scalping went on at KU for so long "undetected" (per KU), I can't believe it hasn't been done at many other big time programs as well. The $$$ are too large to make this an isolated case at just KU.

This may be why the NCAA is dragging their feet with this, how can they prosecute/sanction a lot of their marquee programs at one time without killing their golden goose?

Lets hope the Pump Bros are also fully investigated and any role they play in this is scam is brought to light...Their relationship with NCAA college sports does not seem healthy....
