Bradley's next game is at home vs. Southern Illinois on Friday, January 1, 2010, at 7:05 pm at Carver Arena.

Bradley is 6-5, 1-0 after Tuesday's win at Drake. SIU is 8-2, 1-0 after their home win over Indiana State Tuesday. There is no broadcast TV in the Peoria area for this game, but it is broadcast by Mediacom in Southern Illinois. It will be available on BradleyBraves.com.
SIU will likely have a starting lineup of Kevin Dillard, Tony Freeman, Justin Bocot, Nick Evans, and Carlton Fay.
SIU coach Chris Lowery has completely revamped his style of play this season. Instead of a tight defensive, low-scoring style, SIU plays a more wide-open, run and gun style of play. They lead the MVC with a 75.4 ppg scoring average. Bradley is 9th in the MVC with an average of 65.5 ppg.-

Greetings Braves fans. Should be a good one on Friday night as my Dawgs make the I-74 swing. I will hopefully be making my first trip to Carver Arena since the IHSA Tournament in '02. I do regularly browse this site, and I did watch a few Bradley games this year, including the heartbreaker to Loyola. I do think talent wise that SIU is better on paper, we always have a hard time up north. Good luck on Friday!

Man the SIU fans are pretty confident that they are gonna pull out a victory. There are a couple that realize Carver can be a tough place to play, but the others think they are gonna roll in and win by at least 10. We'll just see I guess.

We are coming off a big win at home against an improved InSU, although the loss to Kelly demoralizes them. Bradley hasnt exactly been stellar at home. I look for a close game like always.

Both fan bases are drinking the koolaid, as apparently there are some on this board that believe Bradley is the 3rd best team in the MVC, and 1 thinks they are the best team......

There also seems to be a good number of people around here that believe Bradley will finish around 6th or 7th in the Valley this season.

I gather you're basing that off the power rankings-- bear in mind that poll was taken right after the Illinois win, and before the bad losses.

Yes, as I have stated, we haven't taken a poll for a few weeks since I have been out of the state/country....

Next poll should probably show somewhat of a difference...

Well, maybe not if we continue to win :D

I'm surprised SIU scores as well as they do, but this game will be much closer mainly because Lowery is worse than Les as a coach, maybe the worst in the Valley. His team's collapse last year was inexplicable except that one might have predicted the thugs would rule the roost eventually. They do have better talent at the guard spot, but Taylor Brown is better than anyone on their roster. he alone won't be enough to win so we'll need valuable minutes from Milos and Eastman, and hopefully a few productive minutes from Edge to spell Sammy. another encore from Warren should make the difference in winning vs. losing

SIU gets most of their points from outside shooting, and drives to the basket. Their inside game is weak. So this game could come down to how well SIU shoots the ball. They are the #1 ranked team in the MVC in overall field goal percentage at 47.3%. However, they are next to last in field goal percentage defense at 45.2% allowed.

Recall the last time these 2 teams met- in the first round of last March's MVC tournament in St. Louis, 3/6/09- BU won easily, 67-55.
Kevin Dillard was held scoreless due to an incredible defensive effot by Eddren McCain, and only Tony Boyle (16 points) and Ryan Hare (13 points) scored in double figures (and they are both gone).
Their other 2 starters- Carlton Fay was 2-10, and Justin Bocot was 1-10 for the game.-

Bradley and SIU split the regular season games last year.
Bradley pounded SIU easily at Carver Arena on 12/28/08 79-63- they held SIU to 33% shooting while shooting 55% themselves. Bradley actually pulled out to a 27 point lead late in the 2nd half, then a flurry of 3-pointers by SIU against Bradley's reserves cut the final margin to 16 points.

SIU beat Bradley 68-63 at Carbondale on 1/18/09- SIU's starters all scored in double figures, but 3 of them (Bryan Mullins, Tony Boyle, and Ryan Hare) are gone this season.

I'm afraid though that with Edge not playing, we have no one to match up on Dillard as we can pretty well assume Roberts will be put on Freeman.

Edge did such an outstanding job on Dillard last season, especially in the tournament, but he has apparently run into the Soph. wall...

So there may be some matchup problems...

One thing I know for sure, Carlton Fay couldn't handle Theron Wilson, and I'm pretty positive Taylor Brown will be no different.

So I guess here are the matchups:?

Evans - Egolf

Fay - Brown

Freeman - Roberts

Bocot - Warren

Dillard - Maniscalco

I think we'll see 25 to 30 minutes of Eddren in tomorrow's game. Regardless of his offense, we'll need his quickness on Dillard.

Can I have some of what you are smoking? Do you do any homework on your opponent? I wouldnt exactly call Lowery top-tier in the league, but how many NCAA wins does Les have exactly? The reason for the "collapse" last year is that we DRESSED 8 players in the MVC game, including 5 first year players. Pretty hard to have a successful year with that, especially with your best player on the shelf for a good chunk of the second half of the schedule.

While we are still pretty green down in the front court, Nick Evans has been turning it up lately, and that should be a pretty good matchup, unless Fay is put on him. The guard matchups favor SIU and down low to Bradley

BTW- what is up w/ Singh? averaging .9 points this year? :-o Is he hurt?

I think I'd be okay with that. We will need AW and TB to have good shooting nights because of the lack of points that we get from EM, but for this game, Edge shutting down Dillard and keeping him from scoring could be just as valuable.

Les has 2 NCAA wins, and his record is 2-1. He is the only MVC coach with a winning record in NCAA tournament games.

Jim Les did not have the luxury of taking over a loaded team fresh off 3 straight NCAA appearances like Chris Lowery did. Lowery's NCAA tournament record is 3-3, but all 3 appearances came in his first 3 seasons with the players he inherited from Matt Painter and Bruce Weber. He has yet to make it to the NCAA with predominantly his own players.

You can't hang your hat on the Mullen injury forever. Lowery lost his team after that and never recovered. The much touted Bocot and Dillard did squat in his absence and SIU tanked. I can go on for eons about injuries as BU leads this decade in terms of catastrophic ones to key players, but c'mon, you've got to do better than what they showed the 2nd half of last season. As for Singh, nobody knows, there is an APB out for the guy who played last season to put on his uniform. Nobody's frontcourt is as weak as BU's. We don't rebound on the offensive glass at all. We have taken better care of the ball this year over last and that will be the key to winning tomorrow night, along with nailing some 3's in our own gym.(Hint: SAMMY- go practice in Carver)

I am not going to disagree with as a whole, because there is a lot on Lowery's shoulders since his giant pay raise, I am just saying that I dont believe that Les is that good of a coach. The talent that has come through Peoria over the years, he should have a few MVC titles by now.

Sorry, but when you lose an all-MVC player and Defensive POY in MULLINS, that is going to be a huge setback to an already young team. There were a lot of times, that all 5 freshman were playing at the same time. The team basically started going downhill after CC and Roundtree left in early January. But that was last year, we are a hell of a lot better than we were last year. When was the last time you saw SIU leading the MVC in scoring?
