November signing period starts Nov. 9, 2022

The early signing period is from November 9-16, 2022. Will Bradley land any recruits?

Fun topic, DC, unfortunately average fans have no insight as recruiting info is controlled in CIA-like fashion. Back in the day, "insiders" such as yourself and a couple others who I know on this board would be given names which would "leak" to fans creating a buzz. Now insiders rely on web sites like Verbal Commits for info and the buzz is non-existent.

Nevertheless, I'm guessing yes! BU will sign a big to replace Rienk (Seixas) and a wing like Kennard Davis. Wouldn't that be great to see him running with Zek!?

Not sure I have this right, but Henry is the only one for sure who is gone at the end of the season I think. Potentially a couple of others. So if the staff thinks 2 or 3 are leaving then I would say we sign 1 high schooler. The recruiting game has changed completely with the portal. I think most mid major coaches will be making their living out of the portal and junior colleges now with a high schooler or two in the mix.

I don't recall any previous year when our coaches had more recruiting contacts and more offers out. And it seems high school and juco kids are committing bit earlier than in the past, perhaps due to the limited number of good NIL spots available, and because they know they can always enter the transfer portal and move somewhere else and be eligible immediately.
So considering those factors, I would guess the chances we sign someone in the early period to be pretty good.
Coach Wardle has signed far more recruits in the regular spring signing period, but there have been a few commitments who signed during the early signing periods in the Brian Wardle era-
November, 2015- Koch Bar, Nate Kennell
November, 2016- Elijah Childs, Ryan Stipanovich
November, 2017- No signings
November, 2018- Ville Tahvanainen, Jamir Price, Stephan Gabriel, Antonio Thomas
November, 2019- Darius Hannah, Connor Linke
November, 2020- No signings
November, 2021- Connor Hickman
November, 2022- ?

I seem to remember a story about Dick Versace during the early signing period. He hid one player, not sure who it was, so no one else could find out he was signing with Bradley and try steal him. My brain may be fuzzy on this but it seems to me it was Voise Winters.

The only story I ever recall hearing about a coach "hiding" a player was the story about Joe Stowell virtually kidnapping Chet Walker to guarantee he'd come to Bradley.
I don't think it could be Voise Winters. He was a pretty heralded high school player in Chicago at Gage Park HS. Marquette was among the schools that wanted him.

I guess I need to modify myself. Hiding was the wrong word I think. I am stretching my brain. The player maybe went over to a girlfriends house to avoid the phone calls he was getting from other schools to sign with them. I dont know my head is fuzzy. Lol

Hersey Hawkins was not a high profile player until his senior year because he played center at Westinghouse. As we all know he blew up as a senior and became a top 100 player. I'm pretty sure Versace got him early. Along with Greg Jones, Jerry Thomas, Trevor Trimpe, Donald Powell, Tim Bankston, and traitor Anthony Webster. Bankston was the last signed.

That 1984 recruiting class also included Len Bertolini and Jerome Childs (who left Bradley after one season).
One correction... Anthony Webster was part of a different superb recruiting class in 1981, along with Pierre Cooper, Voise Winters, Barney Mines, and Willie Scott. They went on to combine with Mitchell Anderson, David Thirdkill, Donald Reece, et. al., to win the 1982 NIT.

My mistake coach about Webster. I think I still have the newspaper clippings somewhere, believe it or not. Are you sure about Len being in that class? I thought he was the Sun-Times Player of the Year in 1983, and Hersey in 1984? Bradley gets back-to-back POYs. It was a long time ago so I trust your memory better than mine. Then Len transferred to Loyola, right? I know Bankston transferred.

I think you are right about Bertolili, Brave82.
Here is what I based my post on-
Len Bertolini was listed as a freshman on the 1984-85 Bradley team, along with Hersey, Trimpe, Thomas, Powell, Jones, Bankston, and Childs.
Bradley 1984-85 roster- https://bradleybraves.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/1984-85

And the Bradley record book shows him playing for Bradley from 1984-1988-

However, Len's LinkedIn page shows he graduated from Chicago St. Patrick HS in 1983, just as you recalled, Brave82, but he skips over the 1983-84 year, and lists his Bradley career as 1984-1988-

So I dug a bit more, and I was able to jog my memory and find the answer to this discrepancy.
Sports-Reference.com has Len Bertolini's college stats-
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/len-bertolini-1.html

Note that it shows he actually attended Loyola initially out of high school, and appeared in 6 games for them early in the 1983-84 season. But he left Loyola at the semester break and transferred to Bradley in January, 1984. He sat out the remainder of the 1983-84 season, and the first semester of the 1984-85 season, because of NCAA transfer rules. That explains why he only appeared in 12 games for the Braves in 1984-85.
So technically, he was not part of Versace's 1984 recruiting class, but transferred soon after the season started. Does that count? :)

Did some research... I was wrong again. Bertolini transferred to Bradley from Loyola, but wasn't part of that original recruiting class. And Bankston transferred to Loyola from Bradley, and was part of that Hawkins class. And yes I remember now that Webster was with Voise. Boy could Versace recruit!!

Versace magically pulled in Luke Jackson before Prop 48 went into effect

I haven't heard anything yet about any signings for Bradley men.

The early signing period ends tomorrow.
I am still hearing a rumor that something could happen, even if nobody is signed for 2023 in the early signing period.

Hmmm this cryptic message could mean: We'll get a verbal but not a LOI; or We'll get a LOI from a 2024; or it could mean drink more Ovaltine. A small number of you will get that reference
