Official Internet Audio Complaint Thread

This has gotten out of hand. The last three games have been a joke to listen to online. This is the wrong time of year for this to be happening.

I'll second that, game was supposed to be on TV and wasn't because of hockey. Then can't keep the broadcast online.

I agree-it has been horrible. It dawned on me after halftime to try the SIU website. I was able to get their audio for free. I hated listening to their announcers but given the alternatives I did it. If it happens again trying the other school's website may be an option.

Yeah but I'm getting a little tired of my Tour of Valley Announcers 2007. The Creighton guy was just brutal. I actually thought the ISU guys were top notch. Tonight was tolerable, but I like hearing the game through Snell's eyes...

Could someone email the manager of WMBD and ask what the problem is and then post here for us?

Forget email. They ignore that stuff. Lets take it straight to their doorstep.

Yeah, I'm getting tired of this too. Not sure what the problem is. Maybe they let some intern take care of setting up the feed?!

I was reduced to watching the sort-of play-by-play on the yahoo sports game channel. That's pretty sad when I"m just staring at my computer screen watching the score update.

Does anyone know if there's any way to contact Dave Snell too? I don't think this is his problem at all, but if we let him know, he might look into it himself. He would likely have a better chance of getting someone's attention on this at WMBD. I e-mailed someone last week on the WMBD website, but I've yet to get any kind of reply on this.

That might help. but Dave does not work for WMBD any more. He works exclusively for Bradley. So I think contacting someone at WMBD would do more good. I believe the problem is with WMBD or their servers that make the radio signal available online.

If anyone else heard and saw the broadcast on Comcast last night, tell me if you feel the same as me.

The main guy Mitch Holthus was horrible. The color guy Charlie Spoonhaur was actually pretty good.
But Holthus was totally painful to listen to.
Does he have to call SIU the "Egyptian Dogs" 3 or 4 times every minute? How many multiple times does he have to recite the nursery rhyme about "Knick Knack..give a dog a Bone" whenever SIU's Josh Bone is in the game?
Can he not get the players' names correct? Can he talk a little more about the game rather than the referee's coronary artery disease?
And why does he have to call Daniel Ruffin "Danny", and call Jim Les "Jimmy". I didn't ever hear him call Chris Lowery "Chrissie" or Randall Falker "Randy".
And of course the guy always seems even more annoying when you lose!

normally i would have listened to our radio guys but the delay was so long that it was impossible. so i muted it and listened to music, less frustrating

I really thought the SIU guys call a good game, one of the best in the Valley. Sure, it's ALWAYS better to have Snell and Coach, but it was a tolerable alternative.

For WMBD, it's like they used up all their bandwidth or something and they can't get their product out to their listeners. This is similar to why the PJStar takes SO long to load at times online.

well, it looks like the audio is STILL bad. Has anyone gotten a reply back from WMBD?

Luckily, the bubravestv video feed was fine. However, I wanted to listen to the post-game show as the video feed usually cuts out immediately after the game. WMBD, what's going on?!

I agree with you all. The after game feed cuts offs and you have to reload it, etc. WMBD feeds used to be so reliable. Not its hit and miss! They are usually too good for this type of service.

Today seemed to be even worse than usual. For whatever reason, I couldn't even get the stream to try and open up; instead, I was taken to the WMBD site. I even tried pasting the audio link directly into real player, to no avail. The WMBD site opened up within the real player window. I am almost sure I did what I normally do, and I have never been directed to WMBD's site to get the audio. Am I missing something, or did anyone else notice this?

I would suggest an email to Wessler or Reynolds. A blub or article in the paper might open some eyes.

Also contact BU/Parker. In BU's push to strengthen Alumni relationships and pull in $$$$ I'm sure they wouldn't be happy alums are upset.

Good idea, Dogs. I'll try Dave Reynolds and Parker. Hopefully something can be done. I'm assuming folks other than myself have e-mailed or contacted WMBD about this. It's disconcerting we haven't had an answer yet.

I held off on e-mailing Dave Reynolds. I did e-mail Bobby Parker though. Here's his reply:

"My apologies on the streaming issues. We have been directing listeners directly to the WMBD server and apparently their server has been overwhelmed, causing the problems. We are going to try and receive their stream and re-distribute it through our provider's server Wednesday with hopes that will alleviate the problem. WMBD also is burning a CD of the last few games so that we can upload the entire audio for the archives.

Thank you for your loyalty to the Braves and your patience as we try to deliver a good product to our growing population of listeners."
