In other MVC games last night-

Creighton clobbered North Texas 71-51. Doug McDermott scored 21 and had 11 rebounds. There were reportedly a dozen NBA scouts in attendance to watch him. Creioghton did not have their best game as the only shot 27.8% from three and only 1 player off the bench contributed much (Dingman).

Missouri State beat little NAIA school Philander Smith 89-71. My prediction for the Freshman of the year, Gavin Thurman lead the Bears in scoring with 19 points and 4 rebounds. He was also 3-3 from three. Thurman is a player similar to Kyle Weems. He is a 6'6" freshman who is also from Kansas, and has a power forward's body but can really shoot the three. Thurman also lead MSU in scoring in both their exhibitions with 21 points against Missouri Western, and 18 points against McKendree-

And Indiana State got blown out at UCLA 86-59. It was the opening game in the newly remodeled Pauley Pavilion, featuring 2 teams with connections to legendary coach John Wooden (Indiana State and UCLA were the only 2 schools where he coached). UCLA just completed an 18 month, $132 million renovation of their arena. Indiana State shot very poorly, 31.7% overall and 19.2% from three. They were outrebounded 49-28 by UCLA. Justin Gant was the Sycamores leading scorer with 11 and rebounder with 8.

Games Saturday, 11/9-
There are 4 more MVC games today (Sat., 11.10). 3 should be easy wins- Drake hosting D2 NAIA William Jewell, UNI hosting D3 Wartburg, and Wichita State hosting N.C. Central of the MEAC. They are relatively new to Division I, transitioning in 2007. However, they did post a winning record for the first time in D1 last year at 17-15. Evansville has a much tougher opener, playing at Notre Dame.

If Evansville could shoot a lick (at about 25% for game), they would have an upset very much a reality.

Down 8 now with 6 min. to go vs. #22 ND

Drake wins by 30 against NAIA William Jewell

UNI wins 103-50 over Wartburg - starters all played just 17-18 minutes in this one

Evansville losing by 9 (49-40) at Notre Dame with just 2 minutes to go - Colt Ryan just 13 pts
