Outcoached??

Was Dana outcoached?? Well you decide....
at least 4 or 5 different people came up to me either before the game or during and said things like....
"I sure hope we don't play zone against Creighton"
"they killed our zone last time"
"they have a bunch of great 3-pt shooters so we'd better not play zone"
"why do we leave them so wide open for 3's"
"this is insane, we need to dump the zone and go to man.."

but just who turns out to be the genius??? I think our coach knew that Creighton's hot streak was just temprary and that the season long stats still meant something......

Indeed we did play a fair amount of 1-3-1 and 2-3 zone against Creighton, and at the very time I heard someone saying this was suicide, I responded that NO it is not, because Creighton really is NOT a good 3-pt shooting team..

Don't believe me?? Check out which team is dead last in 3-pt shooting percentage among all Valley teams...(all games included..)
http://www.mvc.org/mbb/stats/confldrs.htm

AND - in Valley play, not only are the last, they are shooting only 31% as a team....
http://www.mvc.org/mbb/stats/confonly.htm

OK - still don't believe me...then here's exactly what Dana Altman said to his local press guys after the game....it appears even Dana admits he was outfoxed....he's even a little frustrated when asked and gets a little testy!
..he admitted his game plan was beaten by Bradley's game plan...
"When a young reporter asked why Creighton continued to launch 3-pointers
when it wasn't connecting, coach Dana Altman replied, “Well, my man, we
were 12 of 33 inside. So if you do the math, we were more productive on the
3-point line. But I agree, we took way too many 3s.''
Altman later apologized for the out-of-character sarcastic reply."

“We didn't score very well either way,'' he said.
With the exception of Kenny Lawson, who made 7 of 13 field-goal attempts,
no Bluejay converted half of his shots against Bradley's changing defensive
schemes. The Braves combined man-to-man defense with 1-3-1 and 2-3
zones to disrupt the Bluejays.

Creighton came out on the short end of a number of specialty statistics. The
Bluejays were outscored 28-18 in the paint, 19-8 off turnovers and 17-9 in
bench points.

Senior guard Cavel Witter was the only Creighton reserve to score. The other
four reserves that played — Wayne Runnels, Kaleb Korver, Darryl Ashford and
Casey Harriman — combined to go 0 of 8 from the field.

“We (usually) can count on our bench,'' Altman said.
Creighton's starting five of Carter, Kenny Lawson, Antoine Young, Ethan
Wragge and Josh Jones played together a total of 13 minutes and one
second, which was a season high for a non-overtime game. Creighton
outscored Bradley 28-16 when its starters were in the game. All other lineup
combinations were outscored 65-34 in the remaining 26:59.
Maniscalco's 31 points were the most in a Valley tournament game since
Creighton guard Nate Funk scored 33 against Missouri State in 2007"

Dana outcoached by JL? KW would shave his scraggy face before ever admitting to such non-sense! Dana is the man, anyway KW's man. Nice article on SM by KW, but any reference to the team being well prepared by the coaching staff? Of course not - KW wouldn't ever admit to that. JL needs to stay - KW needs to go.

Yesterday yes he probably was. I don't think I've ever seen Dana so angry. But one game does not determine superiority either.

But I have always said Bradley has fielded the better team vs Creighton more times than not the last 5-6 years. Yet we've only won 4 times out of 22 or 23.

IMHO In the first half, Creighton did in fact tear up our zone.... I was not happy with us playing zone at all, re-watch the game, you will see that when creighton went on runs we were in the zone. Thankfully we hit that 9-0 run to end the half and get us back in the game. In the second half Creighton simply did go cold, but I believe it is because we did play more man to man. Personally, I think this team is better off playing Man-man, but I know we dont have the gas to do that three days in a row.

The zone was very effective yesterday IMO. Lawson was killing us man2man. We also started fronting him more in the 2nd 1/2. That adjustment made all the difference.

When was the last time a team beat us all 3 times in a season? I seem to remember last year you saying something about it being very rare losing both regular season games AND the tournament game to a team.

Statistics were on our side ;)

Every game we win JL outcoached them....so I guess JL outcoached the opponent 15 times and was outcoached 15 times

Win the CBI/CIT and we'll hit 20 again! WooHoo!!!! Great season!

Whoa, Tornado and the, Da Coach will think so, ah, the rest of us not so much!, well I gues Chico and Shaunguth want to Mary Poppins it, also. My goodness enough is enough. This could become a BAD habit.
If we have any pride at all we would say, thankls, but no thanks.

I NEVER said that would make it a great season. Thanks for somehow putting words in my mouth though!

Exactly! Why wouldn't we want the team to play more games?

I love your stats Shaun but, "why wouldn"t we want the team to play more games."
Well Shaun, one year OK great, two years, well it will help us be better next year, 3yrs. Oh my goodness, this is becoming a habit! No, No No, and No:!::!::!::!::!::!:
I think we can do better than this. we are accepting Mediocrity.

I don't think any player or coach is accepting it, nor are the fans. All 3 parties are disappointed about the season. This isn't what we want, but it is certainly better than nothing at all. If you have the opportunity to play and gain experience there is no reason not to, it will improve players more than doing nothing this month.

But I think that is a mistake to think this is where anybody involved wants us to be. Past that, why not do it just to play, gain experience, and keep me entertained for one more month??? It won't make this season much better, it might not help next year either, but what can it hurt?

I got an idea...

Let's sit at home and watch Creighton win a Tournament we turn down. You know... the same Creighton team we just beat on a neutral floor.

Yea - that's a good idea.
