Illinois won the first game of their Canadian trip 74-72 in overtime over the Carleton Ravens--

Jeffrey Jordan played well at point guard, and had 6 points. Walkon transfer Steve Holdren lead Illinois with 15 points. Shaun Pruitt added 13 and juco transfer Rodney Alexander had 11. The Illini play 2 games today, the first at noon against the University of Ottawa.
 
Gordon was impressive except for one thing.
He was 0-6 from 3-pt range.
That didn't stop him from shooting a total of 23 times,
Stemler was invisible, and those who said he is a good rebounder and passer will need to defend his 0 point, 2 rebound, 1 assist performance.
Jamarcus Ellis had 7 poionts, 8 rebounds, 9 assists, and 8 steals. He is goinmg to get some triple doubles before he's through and maybe a quad-double.

Recall that some of these Bahamian teams lost by 50 to Drake.

And Illinois cannot be happy having to play those guys into overtime and using some starters for 35 minutes on this trip.
They also cannot be happy with the rebounding as their backup point guard led the team with 7 rebounds, and only one other player had more than 3, with Illinois getting 30 as a team compared to Carleton's 29.
Also, their best 3-point shooter, Meacham was 0-4 from long range and the team was 4-17.
Brian Carlwell played 15 minutes (2 pt), but Brian Randle did not play nor did Bill Cole or Mike Tisdale.
The walk-on transfer from South Dakota St. was their leading scorer.
 
Now there's word that Brian Randle went with the team on the Canadian trip but DID NOT PLAY
because he is injured again. He apparently injured a hamstring earlier this week in a practice and is not able to play. He has really been plagued with injuries.
 
Indiana is now in the process of playing their 2nd opponent in the Bahamas,
the Guatemalan team, and IU is leading 57-17 at half.
Actually Guatemala is making a bit of a comeback, as they have scored 16 of their 17 points in the 2nd quarter.
 
Indiana beats the Guatemalan team, final score was 103-41,
the first quarter score was 28-1, and as noted, the halftime was 57-17.
Stemler was not listed among the scorers, but Eric Gordon had 33, Bassett 15, DJ White 13,
DeAndre Thomas 12, Jamarcus Ellis 7 points, Lance Stemler 3 pts., Crawford 8, Taber 4, M White 4, McGee 4.

Illinois won their 2nd game on the Canadian trip, 73-56 over Ottawa
Pruitt 17/9, Alexander 10, Frazier 8, Meacham 8, Brock 7, Semrau 6
Illinois was 5-20 from 3 pt. range, and illinois had 21 turnovers.
 
Arkansas beat Quintana Roo Pioneers in Cancun, 60-57
Marquette won their first two games in Canada, 90-55 over Fraser Valley & 107-91 over Moult Athletic All Stars.
Virginia tech won three games in Canada, 79-52 over Univ. or Windsor, and 88-69 over the same Univ. Of Windsor team and 70-65 over London All Stars.
ORU beat Univ. of Toronto 77-75
 
More Labor Day Weekend exhibition scores

Oklahoma cruised to a 107-58 win over Trinity Western (Canada) and goes to 3-0 on its trip.

Alabama loses to Carleton (Canada) 83-72

Arkansas beats Belize National Team 108-37.
Arkansas players Patrick Beverley, Marcus Britt, and Stefan Welsh were both suspended from playing in the previous game due to violation of team rules.

Baylor beat Belize 115-47 on Saturday night.

The University of Calgary Dinos beat the Weber State Wildcats 81-74.

Virginia Tech goes to 3-0 by defeating the host University of Windsor Lancers, 79-52, in the final game of the Hokies’ three-game exhibition trip to Canada on Sunday afternoon. The Hokies had defeated the London All Stars, 70-65, in Saturday’s first game and the University of Windsor, 88-69, on Saturday night.

Marquette beat Douglas (Canada) 90-72.

Duquesne went 4-0 beating Waterloo University, 107-80.
Yesterday Duquesne beat Ryerson Unviersity, 107-74,
and Sheridan College, 105-76.

LSU went 3-0 against Canadian teams.
 
Here are results that somewhat surprise me.

University of Washington.......who almost everyone has in their early preseason Top 40
just completed a tour of Greece and they played five games against somewhat average Greek club teams.

They ended up 2-3, and a lot of the comments on the Washington message boards
show some fans are not happy.
After their 8-10 finish in the Pac 10 last year, missing the NCAA Tourney even though a record SIX Pac 10 teams went, and some of the fans had hoped for a better result in this preseason tour. It shows how close a guy is to having dissatisfied fans, as coach Lorenzo Romar was the toast of Washington just a year ago after a fine 2005-2006 season.

Greek ball is a lot better than people realize. They have embraced basketball and play very tight team ball. WA got a better work out than the Caribbeaner's.

The only good Caribbeaner's are the semi-pro Puerto Rican teams. The rest of the islands may have one or two quality players per team but no depth. The Puerto Rican national team came in third for the North and South American FIBA tournament and beat Brazil for the bronze. The top four countries going into the Olympics are USA, Argentina, Spain and Greece. Argentina will give the US a better run for their money when the whole team shows up.
