This is not his first run in with the law, nor the first SIU player with a DIU.

"This is the second instance in which the junior guard has been in trouble with the law during his career. According to the Jackson County Web site, Tatum was charged and pleaded guilty to knowingly damaging property less than $300, which is a class A misdemeanor, in March 2004.

After then incident, Tatum was suspended for one game and was sentenced to 18 months of court supervision and 200 hours of public service.

Tatum is the second Saluki within the past year to be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. In May 2005, forward Jamaal Foster was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition to a $100 bond, Foster paid $980 in fines and fees and was sentenced to 18 months of court supervision and alcohol treatment classes."

Don't forget the infamous events involving Stetson Hairston (who has graduated) and Mike Dale (who later left the team) back in 2004. Hairston and Dale were charged with criminal trespass to a residence, mob action and battery. 2 of these were felony charges, but while the charges were pending, they were allowed to play for the Salukis by coach Lowery. But they did receive suspensions for 3 meaningless early season games- 2 exhibitions against Missouri Southern and Lincoln University, and 1 other preconference game against Div II Augustana of Illinois.

Tatums prior arrest was for breaking a window at a police station.
He was placed on 18 months of probation which just ended in Sept., '05.

"The incident leading up to the broken window reportedly began close to 4:30 a.m. Jan. 3 when officers were investigating an unrelated case and questioned Tatum.
Tatum declined to identify himself to police, and officers initially apprehended him for resisting arrest.
That charge was also thrown out Wednesday.
After questioning, officers released Tatum from their custody.
Shortly after the guard was released, his brother, 24-year-old Derrick Tatum, confronted officers near the dispatcher's desk.
Derrick was then arrested for trespassing after refusing to leave the station.
At this point, Jamal became irritated and kicked a small window in the front door of the police station.
Derrick still faces misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass and resisting a peace officer from the incident. His trial is scheduled for April 12."

"Tatum, 19, reached a plea agreement with the Jackson County State's Attorney's Office and has agreed to pay $135 in court costs, work 200 hours of community service and serve 18 months probation.
The freshman guard also has to write an apology and compensate the Carbondale Police Department for the monetary costs of replacing the 1-by-1 foot window he broke Jan. 3."
 
Tatum should play for Bob Huggins
Here's a story that says Huggins' players have 21 arrests while playing for him since 1990.\

Honest to God, I have a friend that is an SIU alumnus and fan that has mentioned a few times to me that Bradley players are nothing but a bunch of thugs.

Thugs = drunks, criminals, robbers, involved in fights and resisting arrests, and breaking and entering.

Curious which BU player has ever been involved with any of this stuff, but as we have seen, several SIU players have been and repeatedly continue to be involved with this sort of stuff.
I saw on another board where one SIU guy compared this to something that happened in 1999 to Reggie Hall.
Hall was caught trying to enter a night club using a phoney ID.
He was not seen drinking, nor did he commit any violence nor even resist the arresting officer. Plus, Hall never tried to write the thing off as a "mistake", but instead paid his penalty and admitted wrongdoing, and stayed well out of any trouble for the rest of his time at BU. Sad that the SIU people can't see the difference between good kids and thugs.
