One about the AD that hired Gregg Marshall at Wichita - and how unhappy Marshall was when he saw how bad their basketball program was that he inherited...

Clearly, from that article, and from everything else we know about Gregg Marshall, is that he hates losing, and is dedicated to producing a winning program.
I believe Bradley has a staff that doesn't feel the same way. They seem perfectly comfortable with losing, and then taking their massive Gregg-Marshall-like paychecks and cashing them.
And we have an AD and President, who don't seem the least bit interested, nor are they the least bit able to fix the problem they have created.

and winning at basketball IS his passion ...he doesn't go to the casinos, party with big wigs or spend much time on the golf course...
He puts his heart into the program and it shows....

BTW - Evansville drew over 5,000 for their first Valley home game -
they, too are about to pass us in home attendance....embarrassing - as only a couple years ago some clueless people suggested that Evansville should drop out of the MVC and go DII.

in 2007, about the time people were calling for Evansville to leave the MVC (and you can search and find several on this board who did)
they made a remarkably strange move - they FIRED their AD and hired a guy who had never worked in the field of sports before EVER!
BUT - he was well liked, aggressive, smart, and wanted to win - so he succeeded - and he held the job from 2007 thru 2014..
He raised gobs of funds, built a new state-of-the-art practice facility, moved them into a new arena, and bettered every program..
He can even claim he helped bring the basketball program to the upper division of the MVC -
and he was NAMED THE NATIONAL ATHLETIC DIRECTOR of the YEAR in 2012-13!!! - LINK (an award that FGCU's Ken Kavanagh also just won -LINK!)
The ACES won 11 CHAMPIONSHIPS in his few years there - just how many have we won in that span???
They won the 2014 regular season baseball championship in 2014!

But ironically, Ken also won the award in 2008 when he was at Bradley, just a year before he was informed he would not be retained by Bradley President Joanne Glasser.

This, in my opinion, perfectly typifies Joanne Glasser, her ineptitude, need to micromanage and get 'credit' for eveything. KK was doing an amazing job and would have likely been a Brave for life, but once she got her she immediately stripped him of authority and forced him out... Because even if it's great, if it wasn't her idea, it clearly can't be the way we operate going forward.

On the Men's side...story on how the SIU contingent in St. Louis was really surprisingly disappointing this year...
Sorry Wichita, but Arch Madness works best when the teams that are closest are winning - Bradley, SIU, etc...
http://thesouthern.com/sports/colle...cle_6802c343-805c-5393-8fa0-75702427ee20.html

I remember that 2007 tournament when there was traffic backed up from the I-64 exit near the arena all the way back well into Illinois with SIU fans coming to the Saturday semifinal game vs. Bradley. Ticket sales were an all-time high that year, with both semifinals and the final game sellouts. The semifinal games featured SIU vs. Bradley and Creighton Vs. Missouri State when all 4 teams drew many thousands down to St. Louis for the tournament.

With Creighton gone, and SIU and MSU fallen on hard times and losing half their fan base, and the program at Bradley decimated by 7 years of the JG administration that began right after those successful times, we may never see crowds like that again.
UNI, the ISU's, Loyola, and UE fans are loyal, but there will never be as many of them who travel and fill the Scottrade Center like we used to see. If not for the thousands of all-session tickets bought by the WSU fans, the arena would have looked and sounded more like a funeral.
