"The next big name out of Chicago?"

Marcus LoVett may be the next great player out of Chicago? He is a kid who transferred from Los Angeles, and is new to the Chicago scene. He landed at Morgan Park High School, and head basketball coach Nick Irvin.

A quick Google search of LoVett certainly lends strength to Irvin??™s comments. The Los Angeles Times wrote in 2013 that LoVett was ???one of the best entertainers in Los Angeles.??? LoVett averaged 31.7 points as a freshman, 36.7 points as a sophomore. His highlight videos on YouTube have more than 4 million hits. That??™s superstar status in just about any profession.

LoVett was a big name nationally as a freshman and several high-major colleges were recruiting him. Then came the transfers, then this summer LoVett decided not to participate in a lot the big-time summer evaluation events. That scared off plenty of schools. There are rumors LoVett will have trouble qualifying for college, but Irvin says that is not true.

That changed on Monday. Kansas assistant coach Jerrance Howard watched LoVett play at open gym and offered him on the spot.

I started reading your post thinking "hey we've got a connection with that high school coach!" Then I got to the part about Kansas offering and said "oh never mind"

This is a very entertaining highlight video supposedly from wherever he played his junior year. Definitely a showman of a point guard. Granted those guys weren't college caliber opponents but I have a feeling he will succeed wherever he ends up. This might be evil of me, but I hope the rumors of qualifying for college run rampant, every big guy runs away and he falls to us. It won't happen, but I would be so so very happy if it did.

An unusual "package deal"?..
Marcus LoVett still hasn't played a minute of college ball but is very highly touted..

he finished high school in Chicago- had grade issues and lots of schools dropped off but St. John's took him as a partial qualifier (ineligible)
..and hopefully he will be eligible after sitting out a year - this coming fall..

but interestingly...his little brother who is 3 years younger...Zekiah LoVett- Class of 2018 .. has just moved from California to Chicago to New Jersey - just to enroll in a high school there, The Patrick School - a very expensive private boarding school that has a high level prep basketball program and is coached by fired Rutgers head coach Mike Rice.

Looks like the intent is to get Zekiah into St. John's as well - or maybe it's already a done deal - sort of a package deal when Marcus signed! Interesting - since Zekiah - who will be a junior this fall, really has not established himself as DI caliber and is quite unknown at this point.
