UIC to join the Missouri Valley

From a source in Chicago, the Missouri Valley will add UIC as a member. Official announcement coming soon.

IMO this is better than UMKC, but not by much.

I am also hearing that the Valley would like to expand to Milwaukee in the near future.

And, I also heard a rumor that the Horizon League is looking to add Oakland from the Summit League as a replacement.

All the Chicago alums should be happy with this. From the game we played last year, UIC is not terrible but they're a bottom 3 team imo.

Could've been worse..

no maybe about it, its pitiful. We lost CU and their 16,000 attendance per game, and replaced it with UIC and 2800 per game. Major dissapointment. Not to mention the fact that UIC does nothing to help WSU. If we want to keep them in the Valley,( and I think we all agree we NEED them in the MVC) I think we need a team close to them. Hope better news is on the way.

Gag. BU, this should be the notice that the MVC isn't the ship you want to be sailing on. The MVC looks like the early stages of the AAC... A once proud conference that is going to get pillaged. Conferences it seems can no longer serve to master's unless you are the uber-elite - you have to choose either basketball or football. We should jump ship now before it's too late.

What's a realistic upgrade for us though? There's not much out there right now..

Booo!!!! Hiss!!!!

Not a private..
Does nothing to match our academic profile..

If true this is a disaster for the conference rpi, reputation...

I am stunned if this is true!!!!

You think wsu, as the power broker right now, is going to be happy with this one?

WSU has got to be eyeing the MWC... As we should be eyeing the A10

I really don't think on a conference level, it has much to do with current strength of wins/losses in the league, as it does with the attendance/financial commitment. Even if we lost Creighton back in 2006, we still would have lost one of the only two schools that consistently draw over 11,000. The CAA had a lot of good teams last year when VCU left, but that didn't help them attract anyone.

Even if we had added those teams in 2006, they would still be poached now. The A10 prior to expansion was on par with the MVC, and they added teams when they could, and it hasn't helped them from ending up in the same place. The reality is, when you really can only pick from the Horizon or the MAC, you're going to end up getting weaker. Bradley's only option is to try and get in with the A10, or live with the deteriorating MVC.

Long term, have to hope Geno can build something dominant and then maybe the Big East comes calling in the distant future.

Exactly. MVC needed a 10th team to round out the schedule and who else is out there?

Yes its a bummer ending up with UIC, but sometimes you're left taking the fat girl to prom because she has a lake house for the after party (MVC getting a major market like Chicago).

Why is UIC better than Loyola?

Why is UIC better than Loyola?

I remember when Loyola was hot in the mid 1980s, with Alfredrick Hughes, they drew big crowds and were mentioned together with DePaul. There is potential there. Porter Moser has things going in the right direction, and Porter Moser seems to be doing the right things. UIC basketball... not so much.

Academically, Loyola has a better reputation than UIC. And Loyola appears to be going in the right direction academically, too. Not that academics matter in the way they do with the B1G's CIC, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

You gotta be sh-tting me. Is this a late April Fools joke and a bad one at that? The only good thing is it is a game we can go to but really UIC?

Still a rumor
@DaveReynolds2: Am told the reports that UIC will replace Creighton in the Valley are just rumors.

I'd prefer schools with rich basketball traditions like Loyola and Valparaiso. UIC just seems like TOO BIG of a step down.
