According to the Champaign paper he is going to Minnesota. I am not sure if we were after him or not. I always liked Tubby and I hope he builds a power up there.
Verdell Jones did visit Minnesota this weekend, and it is possible Tubby Smith offered Verdell.
The offer is being reported at scout/Insider, but it is not yet reported that Jones accepted, but I believe he will immediately if the offer is there.
Up until now, even though Verdell Jones has had tons of writeups, sits high in the rankings, and seems to be a fairly good guard, somehow he does not have any offers according to Scout/Insider.
This is odd for a Top 150 player, and quite possibly one of the top 3-4 uncommitted PGs in the nation to get well into his senior year with no school offering a scholarship!
I have heard there are issues with family and with academics, but don't really know for sure.
But since the Minnesota offer could be Verdell's first actual offer on the table, he may take it.
Verdell has numerous offers...That profile is terribly outdated. You can even read the stories in the profile and see where Scout even says he has offers.
But those offers, like the Minnesota offer, are all just recent, and I stand by my statement that it is quite odd that such a highly rated PG didn't get offers until into his senior season.
Verdell got offers from Xavier, Tennessee, Marquette, Kentucky, Virginia, and South Florida as a junior as well as a ton of mid majors including Southern Illinois, Indiana State, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Northern Illinois, Illinois State, and many others...
