Washington 67 Illinois 64

A fantastic run by Illinois just before the half closes the score to 35-33 Washington at the half.

IMO, Illinois got the easiest 3 teams in their first 2 rounds.

I don't know how they got the 'gimmees' - but they are what they are.

Illinois is Sweet16 bound (NOT because they are a top 16 team) because they got handed the easiest teams to beat.

Washington is easy?? They were a top 10 team all year. Where have you been.?

Oh, that's right. Opinion Polls know it all. Wasn't Wake Forest ranked earlier?

But that's ok - guess I am the one on the crack-pipe. The pollsters KNOW IT ALL.

Washington is not as good as they were last year, but they aren't chopped liver, either. 2 of their 6 losses came to Washington State, which is about as strange as Illinois' home loss to Penn State. If the Illini win, they go to Washington DC to face Connecticut or Kentucky. Both teams are beatable, but UConn by far and away is the team to beat in this tournament--provided they show up to play! After that, Illinois could get a re-match with an improved North Carolina team or even MVC rep Wichita State in the regional final. Not an easy road, for sure.

Illinois rallied to lead much of the 2nd half, but foul trouble on Illinois and freethrows by UW brought Washington back to win 67-64.

Bye Bye Illini.

Sick and tired of the love fest for Dee. Glad it is over.

IMO, Illinois will be better next year. Lose Dee - thinks he can do it all. Yuck. Lose Augie - been pity-partying since midway through last year.

IMHO, that is the worse I've seen BW coach. Illlinois tried to milk the clock way too early and had to take poor shots with the shot clock running down. They played not to lose instead of to win. Akin to football's infamous prevent defense.

I don't know about anyone else but I was impressed with how quick Dentmon was.......that guy has a motor! :-o

washington was a number 1 seed last year but that was a different team with nate robinson who won the nba dunk conest for the knicks by dunking over spudd webb

The Big 10 lost another team last night as Indiana lost to Gonzaga. That leaves only Ohio State from the best conference in the country with a chance to make the Sweet 16.

Here is a ridiculously harsh article by a writer for the Indianapolis Star basically saying good riddance to Mike Davis

No wonder Davis wanted out of there. IMO he did a great job with the team he had taking them to where they were. But I guess if you don't make more than 1 Final 4 every few years, they aren't happy. He will have no trouble getting a very good coaching job somewhere they will appreciate him.

Assuming he wants a head coaching job. He made his claim to fame as a recruiter at IU. If he wants another job as head coach, will he take one now, or take a year off? I think Mike Davis would be more comfortable at a mid-major school where the fans aren't so over-the-top in their basketball expectations. Woe to his successor at Indiana. It should be interesting to see where the dominoes land on the vacancies this year. With about 36 changes last year, I thought that was quite a lot. This year could make it pale in comparison.

One of the most interesting rumors I have heard is the Davis would replace Mike Anderson at UAB. Anderson is rumored to be sought by several high schools.

Mike Davis ended his stint with IU as classy as you can get! He will go somewhere and become very successful.
