What did you expect our MVC start to be?

I believe we have had the hardest start in MVC play of all the teams. We have played the 4 best teams in the valley before conference play. 5 when we go to Wichita tomorrow. I thought 2-2 would be a good start, but an upstart Mo. state team beat us. That leaves at 1-3. I am not panicked, we have had a tough stretch in MVC and I think we will get out of the slump soon enough. GO BRAVES.

Where do you get this from? Have you been reading the PJStar? I am not convinced this is true...but i guess you can use whatever criteria and come up with just about anything..

One of the four teams we have played is Drake, who currently sit at 1-3 in the MVC and are tied for last place like we are....plus they were picked to finish even lower than us and haven't really beaten anyone

Plus one of the other teams we have played, Missouri State is tied for 4-5th in the MVC so why are they one of the four best teams when their MVC record is identical to the ISU and the only other teams in the MVC are all tied at 1-3 in 6th thru 10th place?
I would even argue that Missouri State is not better than we are - we had them and should have beaten them - and I believe we handed them the game.

I was basing it off of non-conference record for Drake and Missouri State. Missouri State was predicted 4th in the preseason poll, and Drake had a surprising non-conference season. I also believe it was clear this year that Wichita State, ISUB, and UNI are the three best teams in our conference. I know I wasn't basing it on any special criteria off some website. But I still believe we have the toughest 5 game stretch to open conference play.

I agree that we should be at least 2-2. But, I don't believe we are losing games because we are playing the best teams. We are losing because Bradley is a team with serious flaws that other coaches can easily exploit, and we have no answers. Drake and Missouri State may have had pretty non-conference records, but they are not great teams, and will not be NCAA at-large quality teams. Drake, in fact, is just 1-3 in the MVC, and Missouri State just 2-2. And Northern Iowa did not have one of the 4 best MVC records before conference play. They had a disappointing non-conference record of just 6-6 (only 5-6 vs. D1 teams) before walloping Bradley by 34 points.

And although our first 3 road games are against the 3 teams picked at the top of the MVC in the preseason poll-WSU, InSU, and UNI, would it have made any difference if it had been the bottom 3?
Geno's record in games against MVC teams away from Carver Arena in 2+ seasons is 1-22 ! And it will likely be 1-23 after tonight.
Maybe things get a little easier after tonight when we get SIU, Evansville, UNI, ILSU, MO St, and Loyola, but we haven't proven we can beat even those teams consistently.

but this one's west of the Mississippi and according to Dave Reynolds - that's an automatic loss...

We did have the toughest start to the Valley, and everyone recognized it the second the schedule came out.

That doesn't mean we haven't failed against it. Getting the doors blown off at UNI and losing the tossup game to Missouri St means underachieving against that schedule. I expected 2-2, and I think everyone expected a 2-3 start followed by a big surge in late January.
