What's the Point of the "Be Brave" logo

Headless Bobcat

Seriously? I don't see why the Athletic department sees the need for yet another logo...unless it's to further dilute the Braves brand.

I love the new Bradley NASCAR, but I hate that logo splashed right on the hood.

I've made my feelings known about the Bradley's poor brand discipline before. But this new logo is everywhere. It's not my team's logo!

It's bad enough the Athletic department let's any of their teams create their own logo (ie. see the golf team hats, the baseball team hats, the soccer logo...all different!)

C'mon! You don't see any big time athletic department letting this happen? How many Illinois logos have you seen?

Pick an athletic logo. Pick a color scheme. Pick an font. Stick with 'em!

Sorry for venting. Back to work. :?

I admit that I don't know the story behind the branding of different teams etc, but I will agree that the "Be Brave" brand on the car is very lame.

Be Brave is the slogan for this year

Yeah...I get that.

But I don't see why a slogan needs a logo, let alone a logo that displaces your primary athletic logo.

The White Sox slogan was "All In." But you don't see them turning that into a logo and replacing the classic Sox logo people identify.

(for the record, I recognize this is a trivial matter. But what else is there to talk about before the games start?)

Perhaps it is a good thing that the slogan wasn't "shake-n-bake!" ;-)

Personally, I like the ???Be Brave??? logo.

However, I agree completely with the real need for consistency, but who is excited about the block ???BU??? and script ???Braves???? I think this and all the other examples you provided point out a real need for a better logo that would be consistently applied. I think the current situation grew out of a lack of excitement for the current logo.

The Bu Braves logo is a very good one and should have been used on the car, if Bradley keeps changing logo"s then they will have a hard time with school recognition period.

That logo breaks 2 different basic rules of marketing. I don't know what is going on in the minds of the marketing people at BU but there have been some very odd choices over the past year.

Good point. I completely agree. Bradley desperately needs a rebranding (not a mascot) and consistent enforcement of that brand.

I don't mind the use of BU as our logo. You just need to pick a font that uniquely identifies the school. Most of the Big Ten schools simply use letters as their logo and I think they do alright. (See IU or Michigan's M)

It's somewhat comical that our president's mission is to become a university of national distinction, yet our lack of vision and discipline in the areas of marketing and branding are causing us to struggle to even be an identifiable regional/local brand.

You have many strengths, but maybe it's time to hand this off to the professionals President Glasser.

Agreed 100%, the BU with script Brave logo has grown on me over the years. I believe if you compared it to a lot of "block" style logo's (there are many) it looks goood.

I think it was adopted in the early 90's when John Butler was here. I didn't like it at first, but with all branding consistency is the key. Remember...."buy mennen"

I think the BU folks do a pretty good job and they're trying to finally break out and get some publicity outside the Peoria area...
Imagine if Bradley could make this kind of dough thru marketing...

Iowa State just signed a deal through 2023 with a firm named Learfield Communications...and will receive "$53 million in payments" for the exclusive rights to...
"manage its sports marketing" through 2023...

This includes - "exclusive rights to broadcast its athletic events, produce coaches' shows and sell advertising on everything from the Cyclones' website to signs at Jack Trice Stadium"http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-ap-ia-sportsmarketing-i,0,1519243.story

I'm always amused by peoples perspective of branding. Simplicity is always best IMO. One the best iconic brands that still resonates after years of going out of business is PanAm.

I agree. Simplicity....and consistency.

It doesn't get more simple than the Michigan M. But you'd never see a Wolverine team with a different style M on their shirt or hat...like Bradley's baseball team or Softball team or golf team or tennis team. All different versions of B or BU.

Check out the clothing section of the Bradley bookstore web site. You'll see dozens of different logos, fonts and color schemes.

Then check out the Illini clothing store. All a consistent look and feel. Right down to the colors and fonts.

If you can't afford the marketing budgets of the big boys, at least pay attention to what they do and copy it.

I agree with the simplicity and consistency concepts as well. The block M of Michigan and the block I of Illinois and Iowa are simple and consistent, yet timeless.
I really liked the Michigan throwback jerseys that their football team wore last week.

Personally, I prefer an english style B for a Bradley design, but that is up for debate. Also, the current BU logo with the script Braves looks very dated.
