WE is one of the underrated athletes in the MVC in my opinion. We all know he's the Alaska state champ in the high jump...we've all seen the way he runs the court like a "3" and he's flashed a decent short to mid-range jump shot. Just thinking out loud here...are we playing him at the wrong position? He's typically the only "big" on the court when he plays, and I can see where he'd be the "4" when Sam or Sticks is in the game at the same time....but what about a lineup where WE is a small forward? Seems that we're so guard-centric these days that it's hard to imagine a lineup that has a true center, plus another big at PF and......WE at the three. Just a thought.

I have not seen anywhere near the skill in Will or the other players to do this. Will cannot pass, or catch passes well enough, nor dribble well enough to make this happen BEST Case scenrio lineup would be something line SM AW WE TB AT... in that group there are 2 people who have a history of being scorers, people have hope from the others, but that is all. Mean while, players like CRob and DSE and such are on the bench. With only AT and SS as subs for big men...

I understand some like height, but with our team this doesn't make sense.
 
I believe that what this team is lacking is that 6'6+ swing man who can do it all effectively. Whenever BU has a guy like this, then BU typically is quite successful. The first two names that come to mind are Sommerville and Deon Jackson.

If WE can step in and fill that roll effectively, great, but I see him more of a Chad Kleine type with some hops. Hope WE can get his D to that level.

My only true criticism of the coaching staff is the inability to get that 6'6" + swingman type player that can impact a game. Too many scholly offers to 5'10" spark plug guards.

Great points all around- wonder why it's different in basketball than football......NFL is a copycat league; if someone does something right, soon everyone else will try the same. ie. "Patriot way" No mistake offense, get a wes welker type and put him in the slot, etc.

Sweet 16 year worked for us, could it be possible to simply "clone" that team? Big man, athletic 4, swingman at 3, etc. Obviously some players aren't going to be as good (POB) but others could be even better....

I certainly hope you are right. Now, TB isn't in the category of 'Cellus or Deon. He hasn't stepped foot on the court yet his sophomore year and he has a long way to go. If he develops into that type of player, then BU will be very good with the other complementary talent we have. If he gets to that level this year, then BU will be a very tough out come tourny time.

If not and BU continues to struggle to defend inside and protect the glass, then could be a mediocre season.

Your point was that the staff couldn't get that type of player. I feel TB is exactly the time of player...
 
In a conventional system TB is the 3 and WE is the 4. I think we could compete with just about anyone with the right offense and a lineup of SM/DSE, AW, TB, WE, and AT/SS. That lineup is big, athletic (for the most part), and can score. Unfortunately we aren't conventional.

I would absolutely love to see what BU could do with that line-up for the next two years.....but I agree that it will probably never happen.

Nope, and eventually we'll be rolling with a backcourt of 5'9" and 5"10" and a frontline of 6'1", 6'3", and 6'5" :roll:


I really think what Jim is tryin to do is perfect the Class A high school basketball system into the college game...

BB---I agree 100% with you. Your lineup could be a very good one and should be worth a fair try if our coaches would only start thinking out of the box. If we aren't willing to make or at least try some changes to our "system", we may be destined to a long period of mid MVC mediocrity.

Been typing that lineup for a long time as my Wishful lineup.....I would love to see it....just give me 5 -6 minutes of that lineup and you would see a powerful BU squad...nothing against other player.....like you have SM/EM/DSE and AW/CR and TB and WE/AT and AT/SS...lots of interchangables....but a big powerful ATHLETIC group..

I know you guys want big but we could not possibly put a more inexperienced unproven line up on the floor. Size ISN'T everything. These guys, at this time are not as good of basketball players as our guards. Period. Watch them in games. The total of those guys career PPG is like 8. That would mean our guards should average about 25-30 ppg for us to succeed. I know we want big, and people question the direction, but suggesting this is a viable option is just not realistic.

If ever there were a case of the backup QB being the most popular player on a losing team, this is it...

Our entire returning roster in '06-'07 averaged a collective 27 ppg (approx), so that argument really holds no water whatsoever. And I never said 'starting', but I would like to see what that lineup or a similar one could do in an extended period of time on the floor running a system that's truly conducive to playing with 2 big men and a true small forward.
 
Maybe on Tuesday, Bradley will get a chance to play some unorthodox lineups. It's a lot easier to play a very small lineup or very big lineup with a 20+ point lead.
 
..problem with playing 3 bigs is the 2 remaining guards would start running the weave, get dizzy, fall down and turn the ball over..
