Zobrist to transfer to Belmont

Let’s be honest he was a great high school player. I didn’t see it translate to MVC. He was always afraid to shoot and to slow on defense. Needs more time to adjust and that’s what he was pondering and probably jumped ship.

Reminder of the offers Matthew Zobrist had in high school... He chose Bradley over:
Illinois State
Penn
Belmont
St. Louis
Indiana State
Loyola
Miami-Ohio
Bryant
Eastern Illinois

With Ty Pence leaving ISU, I guarantee they are among others calling him.

It would sting to see him play elsewhere in the mvc. Can't blame him for the decision, he's a great player and will do well wherever he goes. My advice would be to go play at Eastern or similar for a year, be a starter, learn to throw your body around against D1 talent, then come back next year as a junior and shoot the lights out in PTown in the Nate Kennel/Ville role.

Here's Matthew Zobrist's quote to Dave Eminian on his departure:

"I'm going to find a place that better fits me," Zobrist told the Journal Star. "That's really it. I was a little frustrated (during his freshman season), but nothing detrimental, no issues with anything.
"I'm glad I made the decision to come to Bradley, I learned a lot, grew from it. But I just got to go.""

I am predicting Matthew will transfer to....... Belmont.

Just thinking the three freshmen recruits that everyone was excited about are mostly gone. Zorbrist was supposed to give us outside shooting.

What makes you think that? Inside info? I think he would fit in better at Miami-Ohio.
Maybe. I think he liked Belmont.

Also, not sure this would make a difference, but Miami has guards Brant Byers and Eian Elmer returning and Leshaw Stowers coming off his redshirt next year.

I thought he might go to Eastern Illinois since Nate Kennel is down there. True not on staff but runs Bible studies with some of the players.

I wish him well, I understand exactly where he is coming from, there are many places he can go and play which was always why I could never understand why good players were satisfied sitting the bench when there were schools where they could go to and play. It is very hard for a very good player out of high school that started and played a lot to sit the bench.

I agree. Maybe one year while you get stronger and learn the speed of the game, but if you are a competitor, I can't imagine not being a rotational player after year one with the transfer portal.

Good Luck Matthew! Great kid and a great family!

Btw, I had heard that he liked Belmont prior to making his commitment to Bradley. And apparently, even with the coaching turnover, the new Belmont coach stood by their previous offer to Matthew.

That's too bad, I hope he does well against everyone but us. I had high hopes of him becoming the next BU sharpshooter.
