CHN Picks Bradley #120

tornado

In their dragged out preseason ritual, collegehoopsnet.com is naming their Top 144 college basketball teams.
They go slowly from #144 down to #1 with a capsule on each team.

They have named Bradley at #120, significantly better than the #156 they picked BU at last year. (after they name the top 144, they list the rest all the way down to #335.)

They pick BU 7th in the MVC, with apparently only ISU, Evansville, and Indiana State must be lower? That means they have 7 MVC teams in their top 120, and if they pick Drake ahead of BU, they are already completely discredited!

Some "errors" they make:
They list Xavier Crawford at 6'9"
They said DRuff was a junior last year, but fail to note it was only his 2nd year of eligibility and he is likely to get back his 4th, so in effect he's really only a junior athletically this coming year.
They act like BU has absoltely no outside shooting. I know we lost Sommerville and Bennett, but we still have Ruffin, Franklin, Crouch, Brown, Warren, and others. I think the jury is still out on the outside effectiveness BU will have.

T - thanks for the link.

As for the errors...
- Crawford at 6'9": no big deal.
- Not noting Ruffin may have 2 yrs of eligibility: again, no big deal.
- Acting like BU has no outside shooting: actually, IMO, it was written very well. They said this, " For a team that will depend on guard play, nobody is a proven threat from behind the arc." I think that is a true assessment. They pick on JJ's offensive production in spite of starting 19 games but then say this, "he will provide senior leadership and solid defense and hopefully some scoring with more opportunities to shoot." I think that is also true. JJ didn't really look to shoot because there were so many other options. Next season WILL be different for him.

Really - the whole Preview was pretty much dead on for what I see for this next BU team's season.

As for the ranking... I could really care less. Pre-season ranks don't mean squat. During the season ranking doesn't really mean squat. It's how you play and how you finish in those polls.

Forgot to mention on this...

I am guessing they will have ISU ahead of BU before Drake.

That doesn't make me any happier.

I just think that makes more sense. According to ISU fans, don't they have the best recruiting class coming in this fall? That should put them at 6th behind UNI at 5th. Then I would guess WSU at 4, Mo St at 3, Creighton and SIU at the 1-2.

i agree. good link although i think bu could surprise. might sound funny but i think jeremy crouch is going to bounce back and be a major contributor to the team. if he regains his outside shot it would be a huge boost to the team.

as far as ruff, what are the odds that he plays an extra year?

According to my information, Ruffin is well on his way to graduate "on Time" and receive another year of eligibilty.

Today's pick at chn is #117 Sam Houston State.
They ended last year with RPI 112, but lose their top scorer.
Here are the RPI's of the teams they beat last season.

I just think a team has got to beat somebody before you start rating them anywhere.

This is turning into a daily joke, as the last couple teams CHN has picked are
116-Arkansas-Little Rock
115-NC Wilmington
114-Hawaii
113-Auburn
112-High Point

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinions, but even their own reporting points out that High Point was barely over .500 with a feather-soft schedule last year (they only beat one team with an RPI under 170) and they lose their best two players, and have virtually nobody over 6'5".

if were not better than high point, i'll eat my hat. :lol:although i have never seen them play. in fact, i have never heard of them.

ESPN/Dick Vitale is giving his early preseason Top 40.
He still hasn't posted the Top 10, but the rest are below.
Three MVC teams, SIU (29), WSU (31), Creighton (32).

Even though he doesn't have his Top 10 in the rankings yet, it isn't hard to figure who they are:
Florida, Kansas, North Carolina, Duke, Wisconsin, LSU, Ohio State, UCLA, Alabama, Pitt.

Funny how he seems to like the ACC-and other big conferences, because if these are his top 10 then he has:
ACC-seven, SEC, Big Ten, Big East-five each.

Trust me when I tell you this...............I live right next to High Point. They have a team? What a joke! The worst Bradley team of all time could beat these losers! Nobody around here even mentions them. Let alone goes to watch them or read about them in the paper. In fact, most people around here would be surprised that
a) They have a team, and
b) That they ar Div. 1

Now, I can believe UNC-Wilmington being rated. They have a pretty good team each year (not as good as us  ) and should have beaten GW in the tournament last year.

You got a missing link. You mention Wisky in his top10 but they are 11th. Is there another B10 team you meant to mention?

Want to mention regarding DV's top 40... he has Illinois 27th ahead of all MVC teams. And to think those cry-babies in the B10 think DV doesn't give them any love. Illinois better than all in the MVC next year? Cough - cough - gargle - spat.

The CHN page allows you to see their preseason rankings from 2005-2006. So how did they do?
Of the Final Four teams, they predicted:
UCLA at #16
LSU at #24
Florida at #56
George Mason at #95

Doesn't look like they did too well last year.

Do the Bradley players play in any summer league?:?:
Drake, Iowa, ISU, and UNI players all play in either the Capitol City League or the Prime Time League.
So far reports have Klayton Korver making a good comeback.

In the past, incoming freshmen/JUCO transfers played in the Hersey Hawkins Summer League at the RiverPlex. However, due to circumstances this year (athletes not being on campus til July, disassociation with team sponsor Star Transport), they did not play this summer.

This collegehoopsnet.com Top 144 is turning into an absolute comedy.

I hardly even need to comment on most of their selections, but the last dozen or so picks since they chose BU at #120 are:

#108: IUPUI Jaguars
#109: Arizona State
#110: Seton Hall Pirates
#111: Pacific Tigers
#112: High Point Panthers
#113: Auburn Tigers
#114: Hawaii Rainbows
#115: UNC Wilmington Seahawks
#116: Arkansas Little Rock Trojans
#117: Sam Houston State Bearkats
#118: Providence Friars
#119: Murray State Racers
#120: Bradley Braves

I won't pick a bone with any of the BCS teams as their RPI's alone at least give them a shot at getting into the Top 120 or so.

But IUPUI??
Come on!
IUPUI's RPI's have been 158, 170, 141, 160, 195, 251, 302, and 271 over the past 8 years. They have 115 losses over those 8 years (average of 13-14 per year) and have never had less than double digit losses despite playing in the woefully weak Mid-Con.
They lost twice down the stretch last year to Chicago State and to Southern Utah and didn't beat a single team whose RPI was under 130.

But these CHN guys have them picked TO WIN the Mid Con and go to the NCAA, as if they had Greg Oden coming in to help this season. Sadly the only player they seem to think will move in to help is Fred Kounkorgo, a transfer from Hartford and Connors State before that.
I will change my avatar to the collegehoopsnet logo for a year if that happens AND their RPI is under 110.
