I don't know enough to agree or disagree . . . but curious about why. I do agree with you that Broski left BU in pretty good shape even if he wasn't going to win any Mr. Congeniality awards.

Broski was in essence fired. . .he misappropriated hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not into the millions from the University towards the purchase of cadavers for a Chicago firm doing medical research.

As a current (for a few more days...) student who was here during Broski and Glasser's tenure, she wins, hands down.

Much better public face. Willing to make decisions. Great with fundraising efforts.

Gotta agree Jeff. . .no comparison at all.

I get that a lot of people are going to be put off by different leadership styles.

As I said from day one, Bradley is lucky to have Glasser. She will not be afraid to make the hard decisions. Decisiveness is such a rare commodity these days. She will make the hard decisions. Stuff will get done. Some of those decisions may be bad decisions, but good things will still likely come out of the results.

Given that BU needs to aggressively expand not only it's campus but it's University profile, she is 110% committed to get there. People will likely get hurt along the way. But it's the destination that is important, not the process.

Making hard decisions isn't always an admirable trait...making hard decisions and getting them right is

I'm not passing judgment on right or wrong. I'm simply pointing out that they are drastically different leadership styles.

I certainly believe one in this case to be infinitely more efficient than the other.

                infinitely?

then the institutions she's been at should be darned near infinitely better than others??

I think the process matters a whole lot

This sounds like the kind of stuff that would get someone like Bobby Knight in trouble.

                      Interim AD

This was released to the students and I'm guessing faculty not too long ago...

TO: Members of the Board of Trustees, University
Council, Faculty, Staff, Braves Council, BSS and students

                      FROM: Joanne Glasser

SUBJECT: Virnette House-Browning Named Interim Athletic Director

                      DATE: May 8, 2009

Virnette House-Browning today has been appointed Interim Athletic
                      Director, effective immediately.

In her new position, Virnette will be responsible for all operations
                      within the Athletic Department.

I am so pleased that Virnette has agreed to become Interim Athletic
Director. I have enormous confidence that Virnette will continue to move
our Athletic Department forward, with an eye on excellence both on the
field of play and in the classroom.

Virnette brings a wealth of experience and understanding about all
aspects of Bradley's athletic operations. I am confident she is the
right person to lead our department at this time.

As you know, Virnette has been a passionate and trusted leader in our
Athletic Department for nearly 13 years, most recently serving as
Executive Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator. Virnette is
the first woman and the first African-American to lead Bradley's
                      Athletic Department.

Virnette has represented Bradley at Missouri Valley Conference meetings
and has served on both the Championships and Executive Committees and as
chair of the Athletics Administrators Committee. Having recently
completed a four-year term on the NCAA Academic, Eligibility and
Compliance Cabinet, she currently is a member of the NCAA Minority
                      Opportunities and Interest Committee.

Named one of Peoria's "40 Leaders Under Forty" in 1999, as well as one
of the 25 Women in Leadership in 2002, Virnette received her bachelor's
degree in biology from Bowling Green State in 1987 and worked as an
admissions counselor there while pursuing her master's degree. She also
received the 2004 Frances Mergen Award for distinguished public service.

Virnette and her husband, Brad Browning, reside in Peoria and are the
                      parents of one child.

I know you will all join me in congratulating Virnette on her new
position as we continue the great tradition of the Bradley Braves.

                      Warm Regards

Virnette is a pretty great woman.

I'm glad to see BU is going with the interim for the year. The national search that they will likely conduct should be a fun one to watch

Just because a president has a better public face does not make them good at their job. As for decision making, what difficult decisions has she made? Dont get me wrong, The Prez has done some good things already... But to date, I wouldnt catergorize any of her decisions as difficult..... Fundraising efforts can go so far as long as the mases remain enthused......

I believe southpaw is referring to Broski's tenure at UIC... If so, all this was well known to the various media at the time of his BU hire.
