  • Where is the drive-by media?

You would think that some local media outfits who seem to jump at the opportunity to bash Bradley would be all over this Glasser-KK story. We haven't seen anything by way of the local newspaper other than a small story about KK's departure. Where's the stories? Where's the editor? Where's the editorials? Where's the dirt? Where's the 'breaking news'? Where's the 'real story'? Don't these people want to sell newspapers and increase readership in these tough times for newspapers? I think someone's asleep at the wheel on this one...unless there's some alterior motives at work...

Whereas I really don't care for the term drive-by media, I have also wondered why the media in this town has been strangely silent about this situation. There have been a couple of blurbs here and there but that is about it. Has the media in this town been manipulated?

What I don't get is why people here speak so loudly about all the negative press the paper gives BU, and then it doesn't cover something that is potentially very negative for PR, and people cry foul.

All of the writers that cover BU were out of state over the weekend for family graduations.

I think the press has done a very fine job covering this...
my guess is that your post, BradleyBrave, will prompt them to immediately get onto the story and write a hit piece, so thanks for nuthin'

I guess one of my expectations of the paper/media is to dig around the story a little bit. It seems like at least a few on the board suspect that something a little strange is going on with KK's departure, newspapers can find out.

Even I knew something was going on because of all the letters to the editor in the JS urging BU to retain KK.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

Hmm...The last time I checked, the word "media" is plural. I havent seen or heard too much of this on the television or radio. I am sure that KW has a story squirrelled away somewhere.

Except the 5 writers who currently have BU articles on the PJ Star website.

What's curious is why this potentially negative story gets buried when other ones get front page heading. As I said with all of the other 'negative' articles - Sommerville/Granger/Paying Players/Drinking/Punching - all we ever want is the TRUTH. I don't think we've gotten it yet. Not even close.

                  One thing I found interesting...

KK was visibly present on Saturday, (which he deserved) and JG was not as visible.

I have 30 questions I would like to know the answer the to regarding this situation

I read one release from the paper that was on the internet. It was announcing that KK was out immediately at BU. It also mentioned when the parting of ways may have started with KK and the the prez. I can no longer find it and suspect that it was removed/edited.

BuB - here is the only release I received...I think you are referring to one of the PJS stories

"TO: Members of the Board of Trustees, University Council,
Faculty, Staff, Braves Council, BSS and students

                      FROM: Joanne Glasser

SUBJECT: Virnette House-Browning named Interim Athletic Director

                      DATE: May 8, 2009

Virnette House-Browning today has been appointed Interim Athletic Director,
                      effective immediately.

In her new position, Virnette will be responsible for all operations within the
                      Athletic Department.

I am so pleased that Virnette has agreed to become Interim Athletic Director.
I have enormous confidence that Virnette will continue to move our Athletic
Department forward, with an eye on excellence both on the field of play and
                      in the classroom.

Virnette brings a wealth of experience and understanding about all aspects of
Bradley’s athletic operations. I am confident she is the right person to lead
                      our department at this time.

As you know, Virnette has been a passionate and trusted leader in our
Athletic Department for nearly 13 years, most recently serving as Executive
Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator. Virnette is the first woman
and the first African-American to lead Bradley’s Athletic Department.

Virnette has represented Bradley at Missouri Valley Conference meetings and
has served on both the Championships and Executive Committees and as
chair of the Athletics Administrators Committee. Having recently completed
a four-year term on the NCAA Academic, Eligibility and Compliance Cabinet,
she currently is a member of the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interest
                      Committee.

Named one of Peoria’s “40 Leaders Under Forty” in 1999, as well as one of
the 25 Women in Leadership in 2002, Virnette received her bachelor’s degree
in biology from Bowling Green State in 1987 and worked as an admissions
counselor there while pursuing her master’s degree. She also received the
2004 Frances Mergen Award for distinguished public service.

Virnette and her husband, Brad Browning, reside in Peoria and are the
                      parents of one child.

I know you will all join me in congratulating Virnette on her new position as
we continue the great tradition of the Bradley Braves.

                      Warm regards."

I am not anti- PJS like some are here. But even if they write a story many wouldn't be happy with it here.

I just want the truth. If it makes KK, JL, JG, or BB look bad...I just want the truth. Shouldn't we all want that?

I am not anti-PJS, but I also don't automatically accept everything they write to be the truth.
