....Jamar did not impress in his first game last night....
his performance might have shot down any NBA hopes.....

Jamar Smith 3 pts (1-6) and only 1-5 from 3-pt, 4 rebs, 1 asst, 2 to, 1 stl. in 25 minutes.
One of Jamar's teammates, Ryan Thompson (6-6 guard from Rider) was 14-20 and 4-5 from behind the arc, 37 points and 4 asst in 33 minutes!!!!!
Another teammate, Tweety Carter, was 4-8 from 3-pt and had 12 pts in 22 min.



Adam Koch started for the other team who lost by 32 points; Koch was 2-4, 5 pts, 1 reb in 25 minutes, also not a real impressive outing.


in the only other game last night, Cornell's Ryan Wittman was 0-4 from 3-pt and 3-9 overall for 6 pts, Western Kentucky's AJ Slaughter had 28 points.

Osiris Eldridge hasn't played yet, their team plays tonight at 9PM (Eastern)

In the games last night --

Jordan Eglseder's team got absolutely hammered 104-85 with seven different opponents scoring 11 pts or more, and everyone who played scoring at least 8 pts...
and shooting 58% from the floor...
while Eglseder had a good game, hitting 7-13, 16 pts/8 rebs

In the 2nd game Osiris Eldridge's team won in a lower scoring game 76-66...
OE jacked a team leading 14 shots and made 4 and was 0-3 from 3pt. and 0-2 from the FT line, ending with 8 pts, 1 asst, 2 TO in 27 minutes.
Thankfully he was carried by Raymar Morgan, Wayne Chism, and Jerome Randle who all scored 17, 13, and 18 respectively.

In the final game, Adam Koch's team playing in the consolation bracket won 91-83, with Koch having a nice game, going 6-12, and 2-5 from 3-pt, ending with 14 pts, 9 rebs in a team leading 31 minutes.

Games continue tonight in both the Championship Bracket and Consolation Bracket.

Osiris is not a consistent enough shooter for the NBA, Jamar did not play against tough enough competition his last 2 years at S.Indiana so he is not as skilled as he would have been had he played for Illinois against better competition.

OE had the ability to be an NBA player IMO but I'm betting and please any ISU fan correct me if I'm wrong, he did not put in the time needed to get yourself to the next level. His game did not improve it seemed to have taken a step back if anything. With the prize in front of him it just seems he do not have the drive to get there and relied on his natural talents alone. Even MJ worked his tail off! Every player in NBA has natural ability but to make it you have to have the drive.

Chad Ford, ESPN's draft guru, tweeted from Portsmouth that the entire event was very disappointing (just like last year) and that no one at the event is currently projected to be drafted.

I wonder how much longer this event for marginal prospects will survive given that the NBA now has a scouting combine for top prosepcts, like the NFL does.

In Friday's games:

Jordan Eglseder's team loses their initial game in the Consolation Bracket, 96-86 to go 0-2. Jordan played 24 minutes, had 12 pts, 9 rebs.

In the Championship Bracket, Jamar Smith's team lost 77-67 and now plays for 3rd place.
Jamar had a nearly identical night as he did Wednesday when he was 1-6 and missed all his 3pt attempts in 25 minutes.
Last night he was 1-5 and missed all three of his 3pt attmpts, for just 5 pts, no rebounds, no assists. (15 min.)

In the final game last night, Osiris Eldridge's team won 98-75, and King O didn't take a single 3-pt attempt.
He also did not start and came off the bench instead...
He did take 18 shots though in just 22 minutes, and ended with 15 pts (7-18 ), 1 asst, 2 TO.

The 3rd place game in the Consolation Bracket-
Jordan Eglseder's team loses to finish last among the eight teams.
None of their games was within a 10-point margin...but again Jordan had a good game, 14 pts, 13 rebs

In the Championship game of the Consolation Bracket-
Adam Koch's team wins 108-74 to go 2-1 overall...
Koch had 12 pts & 8 rebs, but considering everyone ran up stats, his numbers were the 5th best scoring on his team & 5th best rebounding.

The final two games at the Portsmouth Invitational are complete...

In the 3rd place game:
Jamar Smith's team loses 87-84 to take 4th place -- Jamar started and had 9 pts but was 0-1 from 3-pt.
Jamar's only hopes to play pro ball rest on his shooting abilities, as he certainly makes no pretense of having any point guard abilities...
Yet in this 3 game tournament against opponents and defenses that were chaotic at best and pretty soft - and against players who largely will not be playing pro ball - Jamar averaged 5.7 ppg and hit only 1 of 9 3pt attempts.

In the Championship game:
Osiris Eldridge's team lost and took home 2nd place - 86-78.
OE was 6-14, and he had 20 pts, 5 rebs, 1 asst, 3 turnovers.
The SG's on the other team had good games and were their leading two scorers.... Trevon Hughes 21 pts, Rodney Green 17.
OE's 3 game stats - 14 ppg, 4-11 on 3-pt

Everyone knows O did not have a very good year. That doesnt mean he isnt a heck of an athlete. In the NBA he isnt going to be asked to score prolly at all. If he can play lockdown defense and hit an open shot he will play several years in the NBA. Its all about fitting into a role on a team.

O.E. needs to improve his consistency because NBA teams do not draft players that shoot the ball as poorly as he did this season; probably headed to Europe to improve his skills.
