  • Kansas Center Suspended

CJ Giles has been indefinitely suspended from practice and play for
    "off court problems".

Must have been something serious to get suspended there and not just having it covered up.

Uh-oh... McKay is probably on top of this one already.

I would probably say Huggy-bear has the edge on this one. In-state and all.

I almost fingered Bobby H, but I guessed the B12 is against in-conference transfers.

            Here's the skinny on C J Giles.
            Great talent, but easily distracted.
He would have been a perfect fit at a smaller school or midmajor where he could have been a very important part of the team. And he does have NBA caliber talent.
But at Kansas, he is an also-ran. He is disinterested because he is not getting much playing time.
He has gotten into trouble several times while at Kansas.
Most don't recall, but he was involved in a major way at the bar-brawl that left JR Giddens cut and bleeding, and got him kicked off the team.
Giles was a major player in the fight, but when interviewed by the Kansas City Star, he lied and said he wasn't there.
He was never charged, and Bill self kinda looked the other way.
This time it appears, Self is not looking the other way.
I suspect Giles will be gone soon.

Kansas and Bill Self just took another hit.

Jeff Withey, a top notch 7-foot center from San Diego (Class of 200, that was thought to be leaning towards Kansas, and seemed ready to commit last Friday night at the Kansas Midnight Madness, has decided otherwise, and verbally committed to Louisville. KU thought they had this kid locked up....too bad.

I guess this gives Bill Self the open door to put him back on the roster
Suspended Kansas University basketball player C.J. Giles' court date to face an allegation he owes $4,097 in unpaid child support has been postponed from Monday to 9 a.m. on Jan. 8.The purpose of the hearing before Judge Pro Tem Peggy Kittel will be for Giles to give a reason why he should not be held in contempt of court for not supporting his child, Jaiden, born March 31, 2005.

Giles will resume practicing with the team, but will not play again this semester.

I see......quite convenient actually, as "this semester" ends Dec. 15.

As a way of recollection, Giles has been in trouble many times at KU, he has missed practices and team meetings, he has had academic problems, he was involved in the bar fight that got JR Gidens kicked off the team, he has refused to pay his child support, and he has broken the law by defying a court order to appear and give reason why he won't pay for the care of his own child.

So Self will force the kid out for a grand total of five weeks, comprising only a part of their non-conference schedule.
But don't be surprised if he even gets back sooner if KU loses a few of those cupcake games.

Oh come on, Tornado. Can't you see that BS (Bill Self, a rather appropriate abbreviation) is only trying to help this guy's illegitimate child. If Giles gets kicked out of school before he gets a chance to prove himself to the NBA scouts then his kid never has a chance for any child support.

BS is only doing the "right" thing. He's simply trying to help everyone involved, without thinking of him"Self".

                      A rather "Self"less act, indeed!

The man needs to be with and support his child, and I cannot imagine that will be any more likely to occur if Giles makes it to the NBA.
I need only cite Shawn Kemp as an example.

                          Ticket

.............well maybe BS could buy the kid a ticket to the games to watch his old man play. That might bring 'em together

Oops..............that would be a recruiting violation

With Sasha Kaun out with an injury, Bill Self had reinstated Giles. But just days after reinstatement, Giles is in trouble again. He is accused of battering a female student--

Kansas University basketball forward C.J. Giles was cited by police for battering a female KU student Monday night, days after he was reinstated to the team following a suspension for personal problems. According a KU police report, the 20-year-old woman told police she was in Giles’ apartment in Jayhawker Towers Monday night when he got […]

We'll see how desperately Self needs his center.

I can't believe Bill Self is NOT acting now.
