Shayok Shayok Now Listed at 6'8

Our very own Shayock x2 has apparently grown from 6'6, where he was listed when he was first added to the roster a few months ago, to 6'8.

If he is really 6'8, he could be a serious game changer for Bradley, especially with that 7'2 wingspan. Geno says he plans to play Shayock primarily at the SF position...that would have to be the biggest player at the 3 I've ever seen at BU, aside from the 1 minute where Milos was on the floor with JP and WE last year in a game late in the season.

Not a surprise. Check out what we posted about Shayok Shayok months ago, before he committed to Bradley-
http://bradleyfans.com/vb/showthread.php?t=18471

I had heard last November, when Jim Les was in Bradenton, Florida to recruit several of the IMG Academy players (Jamari Traylor, Phillip Greene, and Shayok Shayok) he actually measured SS at just a fraction under 6'8" with a nearly 7' wingspan.

Jamari Traylor was also pursued by Bradley but took the offer from Kansas who found several open scholarships when players left early for the draft..
...but he has now been declared ineligible to play this season at Kansas.

No surprise. Bradley dropped off him almost a year ago when our coaches were able to check out his academics and found that he was so far from qualifying that they would never have even gotten him past the NCAA minimal academic standards, let alone admitted to Bradley.
But then, schools like Kansas seem to usually have a way of getting past those obstacles.

One other Kansas freshman, Ben McLemore, is also ineligible.

Kansas coach Bill Self is "upset" about the NCAA's ruling that Jamari Traylor and another freshman Ben McLemore are academically ineligible
http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-ba...lf-irate-about-ncaa-ruling-on-kansas-freshmen

I thought the NCAA was the final and indisputable authority when it comes to such rulings. Yet Self said:
"Appeal. Then another appeal, then another appeal."

Self said he and university officials see the two players as full qualifiers while the NCAA does not.

"In a nutshell: Kids should be in college. Kids should be at Kansas. Kids should be working on their academics," Self said. "But (the NCAA) just feel like (McLemore and Traylor) have to focus strictly on their academics for a semester."

How can kids like this afford to pay the full tuition and costs at an out-of-state school like Kansas since they are ineligible to receive scholarships?
When this happens to a school like Bradley (i.e. Michael Ochereobia), the kid has to go to junior college. I guess Kansas must be under a different set of rules. They apparently have infinite routes of appeal, and ways to keep these kids enrolled.

Here is another article about a Louisville freshman who has not yet been cleared by the NCAA-
http://eye-on-college-basketball.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/26283066/32746281

Pitino also voiced concern about the NCAA not yet clearing his freshman player-
"They're being a lot tougher this year than they have been in the past. But Wayne's situation is, I think, pretty good. We are optimistic."

every one of these top players with pro potential have handlers and "sugar daddy's" who pay the enormous costs of the $40K per year private schools, prep schools, etc...and who make sure the players get $$ for their verbals...

we all know this stuff is going on -- and once in a while (eg- OJ Mayo, Anthony Davis, Chris Webber, Chris Mills, Reggie Bush, Cam Newton, and even Charles Barkley way back in the 80's - are exposed as having been given MONEY for their pledge to play..
In fact -- most people with a working knowledge of this know it's literally happening on a daily basis and NCAA knows about it and rarely ever pursues any cases unless embarrassed into action by the media or bloggers - as happened in basically every one of those cases I mentioned above. since he's ineligible anyway - it's not as much of an impact but...
Kansas' Ben McLemore is giving Bill Self a few headaches - having some legal problems...
and in Coach Self's words "exercised poor judgement"...

Shayok seems to be playing more relaxed and within himself. Hopefully, the improvement continues into MVC play. I was encouraged to see him start and get good PT tonight against GWU.

:D Didn't even notice. :D

Let's put him back at 6'6. Maybe that will help.

6'8" vs 6'6".....

Depends on the brand/model of bb shoes SS is wearing..

Depends on when his last haircut was..

Depends on barometric pressuer at time of measurement..

Depends on wearing one, or two, pairs of socks..

Depends on....
