Illini

Guess Illini weren't ready for the prime time yesterday.

3-22 combined from two of their three starting guards, and 3 total bench points, was the story of the game.

Hope the broadcasters didn't mention BU too often yesterday when discussing SM

Illinois needs to stay away from the UC, as they are 1-5 in their last 6 in Chicago.

Being I was able to join AzFan out here in God's country, I didn't get a chance too see the game or see a box score. How did SM do?

Sam, like everyone else on the team, did not have a very good game. But then I suspect you already knew that when you asked. :)

Only saw the score but I was interested in how Sam did. I'm a Sam fan, so in case you thought I was happy with the outcome of the game, I wasn't.

SM was terrible...like the rest of the team except for DJ.

SM was 1-10 from the field.....and the offense folded into SM dribbling for 20 seconds and then someone missing a mediocre shot. It used to happen with McCamey......somehow Weber's teams do this every so often....below 50 points no one can shoot....yet they still can't work it inside. Paul was terrible....Meyers was ok just not effective enough.

Tonight better be better or I think they should just surrender to Missouri on Thursday

Thanks FWO. That's all I wanted to know.

A major concern IMO is the bench of the Illini......... no one seems worth a minute

This is a very young team, their start was better then expected and I believe once they start playing conf. games you will see a barely above ave. team because of their youth, by seasons end I would expect to see them get contributions from their bench players and be a much better team as the young players are talented but they are only freshman.

I've heard some interesting stuff about Meyers Leonard and what his plans include. Apparently he is convinced he'll go high in the NBA draft next summer, and is strongly considering going that way.

I've heard more than 1 draft analyst sat that he's already a lottery pick (top half of the 1st round guy).

Hey - as much bashing as people have heaped on the Illini - consider this...
If the Illini beat 0-3 Nebraska (at home) today - they will be 14-3 overall and 3-1 in Big Ten play,
and all alone in 2nd place a half game behind Michigan State in the Big Ten -

In part, I think they've taken advantage of a fortuitous schedule, much the same way that the football team did for the first half of its season. However, not having those three seniors from last year has made this group a better "team".

Having a weak non-conference schedule has helped many teams and coaches.

The offense needs to change, or I see them struggling with a number of the teams in the Big Ten. It looks like with Sammy out, the offense consists of lobbing it to Meyers Leonard which didn't work well today, trying to go 1 on 1, which Bertrand did well today, or jacking a three nobody on the team does well.
