The article mentions just 4 recruits by name, 3 of whom have gotten a lot of attention here on BradleyFans-
- A.J. Riley of Manual HS, Nathan Taphorn of Pekin HS, and Karrington Ward, now at Indian Hills CC.
The 4th name mentioned by Dave Reynolds is "6-foot David Kohn of York High School". The correct spelling for his name is David Cohn. Coach Ford confirmed Bradley is recruiting him.
David Cohn is described as a 6'2" shooting guard from Elmhurst York HS-
I have three more thoughts about this column....surely at least one might spark some debate...
-The Illinois Wolves consistently have and develop some of the very best kids in the midwest - we need to stay connected
-We may already be at a little disadvantage with the Wolves kids for self-explanatory reasons
-So then why does the article contain comments that appear to hurt us in our pursuit of AJ Riley?
Right after glowing praise for Taphorn and naming Nate as a "top priority", there's this line about Riley that basically says we don't need him...
"Regarding Riley, based on the abilities of Bell and Fields, the Braves may not
have room now for the Manual point guard. But there still might be an
opening for a sharpshooting guard on the BU roster."
The local kids like AJ read this, and see that Bradley doesn't really need him?
We have at least four scholarships to fill and maybe there'll be more.
Do we want to turn away and discourage perhaps the best point guard prospect in the state of Illinois?
the problems teams might have when they don't have enough depth at point guard?
From what I have heard AJ may have elegibility issues.
Hopefully he has someone working with him this summer in getting that fixed. The qualifications to be eligible are not so grand unless you truly have a learning disability that there are really no excuses to be able to perform in the classroom.

interesting comment from One of the top AAU coaches in the nation, Mike Mullins...
that ... "There are only 10 players in the country who get to pick their school. The rest is a domino effect."..
..meaning that almost all kids' offers are contingent on what other kids who are "higher priority" ahead of them do....
So when a kid says he has 12 offers, he really can't just pick any/all of the 12 right now...some or many he'd have to wait and see ...
Of course the lower schools would always love to have the verbal but if he's waiting for the higher ones then some of the lower ones will dry up in the meantime..
"...some of our kids have double-digit D-I offers ... We tell them the longer they wait to decide, the fewer opportunities they’ll have."

I'm sure that is the case in some instances but in talking to one of the BU coaches...if BU offers they aren't waiting. They can't afford to. Sounds like Taphorn is at the top of their list but if they can find a player with similar skill sets but maybe not quite as good I'm sure they would take him and not wait on Taphorn. It's really an interesting part of the coaching aspect and I'm sure pretty frustrating....there are just so many variable to all of it
as I said elsewhere - we haven't landed a kid from the Illinois Wolves - one of the top programs in the state and in the nation - in six years -
Maybe hire one of their guys as an assistant next time around when we have an opening??

This is not a revelation. College football is the same way. When Illinois gets a kid who also had offers from tOSU, Wisconsin, and Michigan State, it isn't because he chose the Illini over the other 3.
